Jawbone UP4 announced, NFC payments in tow

Earlier this month, we shared word of the release date of its new UP3 advanced multi-sensor wearable. That date is not yet here, and already Jawbone has announced the UP4, in partnership with American Express.

With the exception of adding an NFC chip to enable mobile payments, the UP4 is identical to the soon-to-be available UP3.

With the UP4, users will be able to track all their fitness data, and simply tap to pay where contactless payments are accepted. The only catch is that the UP4 will only work with American Express. With that set-up, the convenience factor could potentially ...

 

ZTE claims a breakthrough in 5G research

In what it is terming "Pre5G," ZTE says that it has made a significant breakthrough with a new Multi-User Shared Access (MUSA) technology, giving the capability to triple the overload capacity of wireless networks.

The research is still underway, but the MUSA algorithm provided a 200% improvement in the overload, which is a crucial in handling the explosion of the "Internet of Things" era.

ZTE calls this Pre5G because it uses existing 4G/LTE equipment, but provides much lower latency, and higher throughput. Also, 5G as a standard has not been defined yet. Moreover, ZTE says the user ...

 

Windows 10 for phone Technical Preview features Maps app that integrates Bing Maps and HERE

Those who downloaded the latest version of the Windows 10 Technical Preview on their Windows Phone, have been able to use the new Maps app. According to Microsoft, the app is based on the new Windows Universal app platform. More importantly, it integrates "the best maps, aerial imagery, rich local search data, and voice guided navigation experiences from both Bing Maps and HERE maps."  The latter, of course, is the highly regarded mapping app from Nokia that is also available for iOS and Android.

SoftBank CEO: Technology with emotions and intelligence, the next big challenge for mankind

SoftBank founder, CEO, and owner of Sprint, Masayoshi Son has a grand idea about the future, and some of it could conceivably spell bad news for mobile communications.

Mr. Son is known for his aggressive business style, and love of technology. One of his most recent initiatives was the introduction of the robot called Pepper, an artificial intelligence platform put to work at several SoftBank retail locations, and soon to be available for sale for roughly $2,000.
