Specs revealed for MediaTek's 10-core MT6797 Helio X20 chip

Last week, we told you about MediaTek's new Helio X20, a 10-core chip. Today, some new information about the MT6797 10-core chip was revealed from a series of leaked slides. The images show that the MT6797 will include a pair of 2.5GHz Cortex-A72 cores, four 2.0GHz Cortex-A53 cores, and four 1.4GHz Cortex-A53 cores. Another slide confirms earlier talk that the chip scored above 70,000 on the AnTuTu Benchmark site.

The MT6797 will reportedly offer a 40% boost in performance when compared to the prior Helio X10 chips put out by MediaTek. That includes the MT6795 which is found inside the recently ...

Smartphone manufacturers almost always create promo videos to showcase their newest handsets, but these are usually no longer than a few minutes. So we're pretty surprised to see Asus releasing a 10-minute video promo to present the highlights of the ZenFone 2, its latest flagship smartphone.

While there are several ZenFone 2 variants, the video presents the most advanced (and most expensive) one, which comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 4 GB of RAM, and a 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor clocked at 2.3 GHz.

An Apple Watch Edition model with a solid gold band has been seen adorning the wrist of celebrities like Beyonce and fashionista Karl Lagerfeld. This appears to be a band that only celebrities and other influential people are able to score from Apple. The tech titan considers its smartwatch to be just as much a fashionable piece of jewelry as it is a piece of technology for your wrist.

Republic Wireless testing plan to pay back subscribers for unused data each month

Hybrid Wi-Fi/Cellular carrier Republic Wireless says that the average smartphone user is paying $16 a month for service they never use. So starting on May 18th, Republic subscribers selected to beta test its Maestro "Lab" will receive a refund at the end of each month for the amount of data that they pay for, but don't use.

Republic has some other so-called Labs that they are testing over the next nine months including Salsa, which will test out a smooth handover from cell networks to Wi-Fi. So far, Republic has figured out how to make "seamless Wi-Fi to cell" connections and is hoping to ...

YouTube's new API forces third party Windows Phone apps to update

YouTube has changed its supported API to version 3 from version 2. This has forced certain Windows Phone powered YouTube apps like MetroTube to push out an update to support the new API, or face the prospect of not working. MetroTube's latest update to version 4.6.0.0 does allow the app to connect to the new API, which means that subscribers will be able to use the app.
