Huawei P8 sells out on launch day (in China)

While the Huawei P8 won't be released around the world before May, today the handset was launched in China, Huawei's home country. It looks like Chinese customers really like the new smartphone, as this is already sold out. The P8 was made available via Vmall, Huawei's own online shop, costing 3,588 CNY (about $579), and Huawei is likely already getting ready to refill stocks.
Once it reaches Europe, the P8 will cost €499. We assume its price for the US market should be around $500 (that is, of course, if it's going to be launched Stateside).

Not long after Asus announced the ZenFone 2 as the world's first smartphone to offer 4 GB of RAM, and Xiaomi introduced the Mi Note Pro with 4 GB of RAM, now Lenovo unveiled its own handset with 4 GB of random-access memory.
Called Lenovo K80, the new handset will directly compete with the Asus ZenFone 2 not just because it offers 4 GB of RAM, but also because its price and other features are relatively similar to those of Asus' smartphone (which is already available in select markers, including China).

Australians first to receive their new Apple Watch

In Australia it is now Friday, April 24th which means that the Apple Watch is now arriving to consumers who ordered the timepiece. Some who are receiving their watch are posting about it on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites. In addition, developers who signed up for a chance to be included in a special allotment of the 42mm Apple Watch, are now receiving their letters from Apple stating whether they will be allowed to make an expedited purchase of the timepiece.

Xiaomi today announced the Mi 4i, a new smartphone that offers more features than devices in its price category usually do. The Mi 4i will be available starting May for around $200, unlocked, first in India and then in other Asian markets.
Xiaomi is obviously proud of the Mi 4i, so it released a video that shows how the handset is tested before being launched. The video includes drop tests, a pressure test, a vibration test, and even a thermal shock test. According to a report published on Thursday, smartphone users who employ a device with a fingerprint scanner are in danger of having their fingerprints stolen from their handset. That could lead to financial and other transactions taking place without the approval of a phone's owner. When it comes to tablets, it seems as though there's been more emphasis on the lower-end of the spectrum, partly because there's a tough distinction between $500 priced tablets and some reasonable entry-level laptops. During its press event in New York City, Acer outed its latest budget-conscious tablet in the Acer Iconia One 8. Acer's first (and only) Windows Phone 8.1 handset, the Liquid M220, will soon be available in the US via Microsoft Store, both online, and in brick and mortar stores. According to Acer and Microsoft, the handset has a suggested retail price of just $79.99, and customers will be able to buy it starting June.

You have the big boys, and then you have the small fish in the sea – that's how the smartphone market rolls nowadays. The big names, of course, include names like Apple, Samsung, LG, and HTC, they're the ones expected to deliver quality, high-spec'd smartphones. On the other hand of the spectrum, we have the other handful who are either taking it slow, or rushing to gain a foothold.
