OftenType keyboard extension for iOS 8 speeds up your text entry
4/17/2015 5:58:00 AM

Tim Cook's decision to open iOS a bit more for third-party stock apps brought on a deluge of innovative keyboards that were previously reserved for Android users, and the new OftenType is no exception. OftenType is a custom iOS 8 typing experience that builds on the iPhone's stock keyboard with extra quick key tabs.

The default set includes the most used and annoying to type shortcuts - email, name, address, phone, phrases to texting, signature, company name and security ID. Naturally, you can customize the labels afterwards, add new ones, or change the ...

How to listen to YouTube videos in the background – iOS guide
4/17/2015 5:50:00 AM

Google has been doing its best to limit the ability of one to listen to its music while doing something completely different than actually watching them. Now, naturally, since Google wants your eyes on its site / app (and ads), and especially since it launched the Play Music and All Access services – being able to just play tunes on your phone from the YouTube app then minimizing it / sleeping the phone and doing other stuff had to go.

Now, since Google has a firm grasp on Android, being able to play minimized YouTube vids on those handsets is actually not doable ...

First specs, render of the BlackBerry Oslo leak: Passport-like squarish design and QWERTY keyboard in tow
4/17/2015 5:31:00 AM

After stealing the spotlights for a while with its unorthodox BlackBerry Passport handset, the Canada-based smartphone maker has most probably explored the possibility to offer a refreshed follow-up to the smartphone.

Well, if the most recent rumors circulating in the Interweb are to be believed, the John Chen-led company might soon come up with a successor to the Passport indeed.

BlackBerry Central got hold of a BlackBerry device dubbed "Oslo" and it is speculated that it will arrive with mostly the same internals as its predecessor, namely a Snapdragon 800 ...

This may just be the Xperia Z4: New, massive leak reveals tens of thousands of internal Sony docs
4/17/2015 5:11:00 AM

Yesterday, WikiLeaks, a non-profit established in 2006 with the aim of uncovering secretive (and highly sensitive) information, published a 30,287 item-strong database of internal Sony documents, including numerous e-mails, internal presentation files, and excel spreadsheets among others. After some serious digging, a new entrant to the leaks scene, @xperialeak, has struck gold: a (seemingly) early conceptual rendering of an Xperia device. It didn't take long for the passionate, Sony-loving community over at Esato to dive in as well, and fish out a number of other ...

4/17/2015 4:56:00 AM

Google has announced the launch of a new Chrome version for Android devices. The mobile browser is now being updated to version 42.0.2311.107, and while the improvements will not drastically change the way you browse websites on your mobile device, they do include a couple of new features, as well as the usual range of bug fixes and performance improvements.

Qualcomm hit hard by the Exynos chipset in Galaxy S6, might spin off the Snapdragon division
4/17/2015 4:16:00 AM

The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are the most expensive to produce flagships Samsung Electronics has ever attempted, with Verizon's S6 edge bill of materials reportedly hitting the whopping $290 apiece. About 110 components are used in the Galaxy S6, compared to roughly 80 in its predecessor - the Galaxy S5, not to mention the premium metal-and-glass chassis that is certainly more expensive to manufacture than the plasticky body of the S5.

Thankfully, Samsung can produce a lot of these components itself, and one way to reduce the overall bill of materials for the S6 and S6 edge ...

Transfixing new set of Oppo R7 images flaunt its edge-to-edge screen
4/17/2015 3:24:00 AM

In the grand scheme of things, going from tiny bezels, LG G3 style, to nearly non-existent ones, isn't exactly a big deal in the eyes of most consumers. It's one of those selfless advances that manufacturers go after. But LG isn't alone in this anymore, and rivals from China are now working to outdo it at its own game. In fact, a yet unreleased Oppo device, dubbed R7, appeared online a while ago, sporting almost zero side bezel, and a host of new images again drew our focused attention.

There's nothing really new to report here, except that the 5.5-inch R7 is looking more and ...

Google smiles on Apple users, updates Chrome for iOS with several ultra-handy new features
4/17/2015 3:20:00 AM

Several months ago, Google introduced a pretty handy (no pun intended) feature for its Chrome browser that greatly improved single-handed usage - pull-down-to-refresh. Initially, it rolled to Chrome Beta on Android, the virtual playground for any new features and goodies that eventually make their way to the official app, and the regular Chrome scored the neat feature shortly after.

From the looks of it, Mountain View has never intended to keep this goodie exclusive for Android, as it arrived with the most recent update for the iOS version of Chrome (v42.0.2311.47). Just ...

Huawei Honor 7 and Honor 7 Plus leak out - premium chassis and a fingerprint sensor
4/17/2015 2:51:00 AM

Huawei's Honor 6 was one of the best values for its price tag when it launched last year, and now the company is apparently prepping a sequel, which will be in sync with its current premium design philosophy. The Honor 7 looks like it will be made of metal, but might sport a larger screen, compared to the Honor 6, judging from the leaked photos.

The eventual Honor 7 also sports a fingerprint sensor on the back, like the Mate 7 - something that the newly-announced P8 flagship doesn't have. moreover, there is another leak, of a phone we've glimpsed already here and there, and that ...

Latest image of ZTE Nubia Z9 once again confirms a bezel-less design for the handset
4/17/2015 1:00:00 AM

On Thursday, we passed along the word that the ZTE Nubia Z9 would be unveiled on May 6th. This comes after the ZTE Nubia Z9 Max and ZTE Nubia Z9 mini were both announced on March 26th. The Nubia Z9 mini has already sold out one flash sale, and the Nubia Z9 Max has been delayed due to production issues. It should be released some time next month.

Meanwhile, a new image of the ZTE Nubia Z9 has leaked and once again it confirms the bezel-less design that we are expecting. The phone uses a 2.5D glass that curves in toward the sides. Interestingly, the site where the photo was originally seen ...
