Here's an easy and inexpensive fix if you scratch your Apple Watch
4/26/2015 10:38:00 PM

No, this is not the beginning of scratch-gate, but if you opted to go a step above the Apple Watch Sport, you may have noticed that stainless steel scratches really easily, especially when it's polished.

The good news is that you do not really need Apple Care to address the problem, unless you manage to take a good chunk out of the casing or otherwise destroying the watch in some fashion.

Finding a fix for what will inevitably be a common problem for those that shelled out a starting price of $549 is not difficult at all, and may cost less than $5 in most cases. Since most ...

Did you know: these were some of the first "smartwatches" ever
4/26/2015 9:07:00 PM

Pop quiz: what straps to your wrist, tracks your activity, responds to voice commands, displays notifications, and even tells the time? Yup, that would be a smartwatch. Their popularity has been rising steadily over the past couple of years and it is only going to grow further now that Apple has joined the fun. Smartwatches, however, have been around, in one form or another, for longer than you might think.

You see, bright minds have been trying to augment the functionality of the humble wrist watch for decades. The first attempts at adding computational powers to an electronic watch date ...

Qualcomm unit to help Chinese smartphone companies make sales overseas
4/26/2015 8:29:00 PM

As the Chinese government continues to spend money helping local chip makers stay competitive in the smartphone market, U.S. companies like Qualcomm and Intel are opening branches in China, promising to help Chinese phone makers sell their wares outside of the region. Last quarter, Qualcomm opened an office in Shenzhen that looks to connect companies like Huawei and Xiaomi, and other not so famous names, with global markets.

Ironically it was complaints from some of these same phone manufacturers about Qualcomm's' pricing that led to a investigation in China. The Chinese government ruled ...

Hoping to use your Apple Watch as a remote control for passing gas? Apple says no to "fart" apps
4/26/2015 8:19:00 PM

One cool feature about wearable technology is it can prove handy as a remote control for the smartphone it is connected to. It makes it easy for quick replies to messages or as a remote shutter button for the camera.

Of course, there are more mischievous applications for remote controls, but when it comes to toilet humor and the Apple Watch, Cupertino is saying, "No way Jose."

One of the apps submitted for the Apple Watch, aptly called Fart Watch, has been roundly rejected by Apple, "We do not accept fart apps on Apple Watch." Never mind that there are any number of gas-passing style ...

8 features that smartphones didn't have 10 years ago
4/26/2015 5:31:00 PM

Ten years ago, smartphones were way less popular than feature phones, and it was only in early 2013 when global smartphone sales finally surpassed feature phone sales. Besides being in the minority, the smartphones of 2005 were also very different from the ones we currently have. Both their design, and their features make 2005 smartphones look and feel ancient now.

Although some of the smartphones from a decade ago were great, they were undoubtedly limited when compared to PCs. Now, the line between smartphones and PCs is a blurry one. High-res displays, powerful chipsets and plenty of memory ...

Apple Watch owners are complaining about scratches on their new pride and joy (UPDATE)
4/26/2015 2:42:00 PM

Some Apple Watch owners, still enthralled by the new watch smell coming from their latest tech purchase, do have a complaint to make. The stainless steel version of the timepiece is picking up scratches on its body way too easily. In some cases, the scratches are appearing within hours after the device is removed from its box.

Those who purchased the entry-level Apple Watch Sport model aren't having the same problems thanks to the matte finish on the watch which tends to cover up any marks made to the aluminum. We should point out that this is not happening to every Apple Watch model being ...
