Google's mobile search results in the U.S. to post website names instead of domain names
4/16/2015 11:54:00 PM

Google has made a small, but interesting change to its mobile search results. Gone are the domain names, replaced instead with the "real world name of the site." In other words, instead of seeing in green en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google when looking up the Wikipedia page for Google, you will see Wikipedia > wiki > Google.

There are basically two changes here. One is the replacement of the domain name with the site's real name. The second change uses a "breadcrumbs" structure for the remainder of the URL. This is a set of links that provides an easier trail to a web page. Good examples ...

4/16/2015 11:03:00 PM

In addition to the original white version, the Xiaomi Mi Note has been offered in bamboo and in pink for Chinese consumers only. Today, the upstart manufacturer added another color option for the home town fans. The Xiaomi Mi Note Black Edition has been unveiled, priced at the equivalent of $400 USD. That compares to the $370 USD that Xiaomi charges for the bamboo covered variant.

Besides getting the phone, those purchasing the Mi Note Black Edition will receive the 10th album from Chinese singer Jason Zhang. The singer became a star in the country in 2004 after winning the first ...

Lenovo Vibe Shot with 720p display spotted, should be cheaper than the 1080p model
4/16/2015 10:42:00 PM

Last month, when Lenovo officially announced the Vibe Shot, it said that the handset would be launched starting June. While the Vibe Shot that Lenovo already showcased sports a 5-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixels, the handset also has a version that features a 5-inch screen with 720 x 1280 pixels. This was recently approved by China's Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center, which also revealed the device's model number: Lenovo Z90.

The 720p Lenovo Z90 Vibe Shot looks exactly like the 1080p model, having similar dimensions: 142.6 x 70 x 7.6 mm. It seems that the screen is the ...

Samsung now expects to sell 70 million Galaxy S6 and S6 edge smartphones
4/16/2015 9:35:00 PM

Last month, industry watchers predicted that Samsung would sell 50 million Galaxy S6 and S6 edge handsets this year, making the S6 duo the most successful in the history of Galaxy S flagships. Now, Samsung is confident that sales will in fact be greater than that.

According to The Korea Times, a Samsung executive said that the company now expects to sell more than 70 million S6 and S6 edge units. It's not clear if this is Samsung's goal for 2015 alone, but, even if it's not, the company should have a great year thanks to the two new flagship smartphones (which are available to buy around ...

To prevent Bendgate 2, Apple might use a tougher aluminum alloy to make the next iPhones
4/16/2015 8:16:00 PM

This year's upcoming iPhones are expected to be called iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, being incremental upgrades over the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. While the new handsets may not bring major enhancements, it's said that Apple plans to make them tougher (likely because it doesn't want last year's Bendgate controversy to arise again).

According to Taiwanese publication Economic Daily News, Apple intends to manufacture its next generation iPhones using 7000 series aluminum, an alloy that the company is already using for the Apple Watch. According to Apple, 7000 series aluminum is "60% stronger ...

This could be the LG G4 Stylus
4/16/2015 6:07:00 PM

While the G4 will probably be LG's most important smartphone this year, the South Korean company is obviously getting ready to launch other handsets alongside it. One of them could be called LG G4 Stylus, and might be released as the successor to last year's G3 Stylus.

Like the G3 Stylus, which is a mid-range, stylus-equipped version of the G3, the G4 Stylus should be a less-advanced variant of the G4. TechnoBuffalo today revealed a render that seemingly shows the G4 Stylus. Reportedly, this is the LG LS770 that was spotted last month at the FCC, so it should feature a 5.8-inch display ...

Pissed-off Legere aims for 250,000 signatures on his petition to abolish overages on rival carriers
4/16/2015 2:16:00 PM

T-Mobile CEO John Legere cannot bottle the anger he is feeling toward the competition and the overage charges they add to subscribers' monthly bills. Legere says that T-Mobile figured out that these mobile operators raked in $1 billion in overage charges in 2014. Calling these carriers "idiots," Legere has started pushing for more signatures for his petition on Change.org which asks the competition to follow T-Mobile and abolish overage charges.

The petition has over 200,000 signatures so far, and is the most popular one on the site. And to make things interesting, the executive says that ...
