If you ask us, the handset manufacturers and carriers have one thing terribly wrong with their marketing. They love to hand out freebies to celebrities who wouldn't know a well spec'd handset if one bit them on the derriere. Companies that produce handsets, mobile operators and their marketing firms think that if someone famous is seen on social media talking about a free phone they have been handed, the whole world will want to purchase that model. We've seen all of those singers like Drake, Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams wearing their free Apple Watch Edition and stainless steel Apple Watch models. WhatsApp hits 800 million users; voice calls coming to Windows Phone version

WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum announced on his Facebook page late tonight that the messaging app now has 800 million monthly active users. That is a 33% increase since last August. By the end of the year, WhatsApp could have 1 billion monthly active users. That is a very important benchmark for the app. After purchasing WhatsApp last year for more than $21 billion, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that he expects the acquisition to add to his company's bottom line once WhatsApp reaches 1 billion users.
