4/22/2015 3:59:00 PM
A 15-second Korean video teaser for the LG G4 promotes the leather back edition of the handset. LG's new flagship phone will be unveiled on April 28th at a media event in New York City. A huge leak earlier this month revealed a number of images showing the leather backed device along with images of the phone in metallic black, silk white, shine gold, burgundy red and moon violet.
The teaser shows how the "Genuine Leather" is cut and stitched for the LG G4, although we're pretty sure that this is not done by hand for each individual unit. The reason why the teaser shows April 29th as the ...

Facebook Hello dialer for Android wants to make your smartphone smarter
4/22/2015 1:42:00 PM
Facebook seems to think that your Android phone is rather bad at being... well, at being a phone. That's why the company today launched its very own dialer app for Android (we already knew that this would eventually arrive). Called Hello, the new dialer connects with Facebook in order to make your handset "smarter" and "great at being a phone."
By gathering info from both your phone and your Facebook profile, Hello lets you see who's calling (even when you don't have certain numbers saved in your phone), search for places and people on Facebook, and even block unwanted calls. When someone ...
Huawei fights back against ZTE's charges of patent infringement
4/22/2015 1:30:00 PM
ZTE is claiming that Huawei infringed on a pair of its patents related to smartphone cameras. Earlier today, ZTE's Weibo page divulged how the manufacturer plans on suing Huawei for using this unlicensed technology. The handsets carrying the patents are apparently the Huawei Honor X2 and the recently unveiled Huawei P8 flagship model.
Huawei has responded to ZTE's charges by saying that the Slow Shutter and Capture, one of the two patents that ZTE is suing over, is a standard technique used in photography and is achieved by different manufacturers using different technological methods. Huawei ...

Is this the Sony Xperia Z5?
4/22/2015 11:42:00 AM
Just last week, the Sony Xperia Z4 become official. Now, we are passing along what is alleged to be a picture of the Sony Xperia Z5. Earlier this month (even before the Xperia Z4 was announced) we passed along speculation about the fifth-generation Xperia Z handset that could arrive in the fourth quarter of this year if Qualcomm has the Snapdragon 820 SoC ready by then.
From the picture, we can see that the rear camera will be placed on the top left of the phone, where it has been. The side of the device appears to be metallic. The photo was found on a Weibo site out of China, and the posting ...

What's an Android advertising ID & how and why to reset it?
4/22/2015 9:50:00 AM
What's an advertising ID and what does it bring to your life as an Android user? In short, app developers and Google's ad network use your ad ID to recognize your device in the vast ocean of Android gadgets, then generously serve it targeted ads for stuff you may or may not actually care about. Based on the advertising ID, devs and Google can make anonymous user profiles that contain info for targeted advertising, collected during your search activities. It's the price you pay for relying on Google to find stuff. Only apps downloaded from Google Play get to use this feature, and where in-app advertising ...

Verizon shrugs off loss of customers who left the carrier during the first quarter
4/22/2015 9:36:00 AM
Verizon announced on Tuesday that it had lost 138,000 postpaid phone customers over the last three months. Will the nation's largest carrier miss those who have left the grasp of Big Red? Not if you listen to the company's CFO, Fran Shammo. The executive characterizes those who have moved on from Verizon Wireless as being more interested in pricing than the quality of the network. Shammo says that price-sensitive customers are the ones that Verizon is not going to keep.
Sprint and T-Mobile have been gunning for Verizon's postpaid customers with a variety of deals. Sprint has been heavily ...

Envying the Note 4's Screen Write? Here's how you can draw on your screen on any Android device
4/22/2015 9:05:00 AM
Hey there, droids. Now, most of you are probably aware of the Screen Write function that was introduced by Samsung with the Galaxy Note 4 / Note Edge. Basically, it creates a screenshot of whatever you are viewing on the handset right now and allows you to doodle over it, presumably to annotate important points in the image, and send it off as a guide for a friend, or just save it for personal needs.
Well, thanks to a little app called Draw on screen, any Android phone can now get this function. Well, you can try it for free while, unfortunately, the settings that make it really useful are ...
Samsung sells 200,000 Galaxy S6 and S6 edge units in South Korea, falls short of previous estimates
4/22/2015 8:59:00 AM
According to a new report from the South Korean media, local manufacturer Samsung managed to sell 200,000 Galaxy S6 and S6 edge units in its home country in 10 days of commercial availability. Although previous estimates said that South Koreans have pre-ordered 300,000 units, it looks like the latest smartphones from Samsung are not gaining as much traction in the country as previously believed.
How to speed up your Android notifications if they arrive too late [root]
4/22/2015 8:30:00 AM
When it comes to the speed with which your smartphone or tablet receives notifications, it's a question of how often a heartbeat exchange occurs. Mind you, we're not even remotely referencing the kind of heartbeat exchange that Apple Watch users are able to do. In this case, HE stands for how often your device calls the Google Cloud Messaging service's Push function, which powers the notifications engine behind many popular Android apps. A Push request is basically your device asking GCM "What's up, got anything for me?" and GCM answering "No.", or quickly delivering the notifications content.

Useful file managers for iPhone and iPad
4/22/2015 8:09:00 AM
Managing your files on an iOS device - be it an iPhone or an iPad - can be a challenging task, especially given the fact that unlike Android, Apple's platform is a walled garden when it comes to program files.
Apple has adopted a simple solution: it simply does not allow users to tinker with them, so that they don't break something.
However, if you still want some control over a limited number of files, such as your captured images or downloaded books for example, you can manage them in folders easily with the help of a file manager. You can also use this crop of new file managers ...
These are not the droids you're looking for: 4 infamous smartphone clone manufacturers
4/22/2015 7:53:00 AM
Whether we're talking watches, expensive perfumes, jewelry, or even clothes, somebody out there (usually somewhere in Asia) is likely hard at work, churning out copies of it. With smartphones, we simply refer to them as clones, and believe it or not, they're more common than you'd think.
So long, Pantech! South Korean phone maker will probably throw in the towel in the coming months
4/22/2015 7:40:00 AM
Pantech, the third-largest smartphone maker in South Korea, will most certainly cease to exist next month, as nobody bought the smartphone slinger in the specified by court time period.
Huawei's Honor X2 and P8 smartphones could infringe on a couple of ZTE camera patents
4/22/2015 7:39:00 AM
It looks like Huawei's Honor X2 and the recently-announced P8 flagship might be infringing on camera technology patents owned by ZTE. The news comes as ZTE announced today on Weibo that it is suing its local rival for the suspected infringement of two camera tech patents owned by ZTE's Nubia division.
The two patents that ZTE is looking to protect against plagiarism are called "Slow Shutter and Capture" and "Imaging and Mobile Terminal Tech". In an open letter sent to Huawei by ZTE's law representatives, Huawei is asked to stop manufacturing and selling devices that infringe on these two ...

LG G4 to come with a curved display at a subtle 3000mm radius
4/22/2015 6:48:00 AM
Those leaks hinting at a curved LG G4 display might bear fruit, after all, if a report out of the Korean mediascape is to be believed. Upon stating how the G4 will have to clash directly with the Galaxy S6, and going through the expected specs and design Rolodex, like a record F1.8 lens aperture, and a genuine leather back cover for the G4, the publication casually mentions that its screen is going to be curved, and even cites the exact curvature radius of 3000mm. LG already has midrangers with this subtle 3000mm curvature on the market, dubbed LG Magna and LG Spirit, so this speculation is utterly ...
