OnePlus will announce something on April 20; the OnePlus 2, maybe?
4/17/2015 1:41:00 PM

While OnePlus already confirmed that it's planning to launch two new smartphones in 2015, one of them being called OnePlus 2, both are expected to be available in the second half of the year. Still, this doesn't mean that OnePlus can't announce them (or at least one of them) in the near future. The company today sent out virtual invitations to a mysterious event that will be held on Monday, April 20.

Other than "From here on out, anything could happen. #‎NeverSettle‬", OnePlus doesn't say anything about the event. However, since the OnePlus One was announced one year ago, in April 2014, ...

SOL Republic Shadow Review
4/17/2015 1:09:00 PM

We've covered our fair share of sporty-styled Bluetooth headphones, ranging the entire spectrum of the category – so that includes over the ear styles and some in-ear ones as well. Some carry the qualities we want for the active individual, while others miss the mark entirely. With the SOL Republic Shadow, it's been designed to fit comfortably around your neck for a secure fit, which can be used for all sorts of occasions; not just for fitness use.

In our experience, we're quite familiar with this design style, as we've seen it previously in LG's line of Tone Bluetooth headsets. Essentially, ...

Three long-lasting bugs continue to affect iPhone and iPad users with iOS 8.3
4/17/2015 12:24:00 PM

A bit more than a week ago, Apple pushed out iOS 8.3 as a public release. But judging from the complaints being posted on Apple-centric forums, this build of iOS could use a healthy spray of Raid. Apparently there are a trio of bugs that are frustrating some iOS users. One bug randomly disconnects users from a Wi-Fi network. Judging from the number of posts discussing this issue on the Apple Support Communities site, this is a pretty widespread problem.

What makes those suffering through this bug angry, is that one of the items on the changelist for the new build specifically states that ...

Smartphones with Quad HD (1440 x 2560) resolution displays
4/17/2015 9:11:00 AM

When we first heard that manufacturers might be making the transition to even pixel-denser displays than the flagship industry standard of 1080p, us and the community as a whole were skeptical of the value proposition. It seemed like manufacturers are sacrificing precious battery life for nothing more than bragging rights – after all, even people with perfect, 20/20 vision would have a hard time actually spotting a difference in clarity on such small panels. Regardless, the Android industry pressed on, and we currently have about a dozen of high-end, high-profile devices that offer as ...

Amazon's Appstore drops Test Drive feature, now lacks a way to try out paid apps
4/17/2015 9:09:00 AM

Amazon recently announced that it has discontinued the Test Drive service from its Android app store. Test Drive was a try-before-you-buy feature that allowed potential customers to preview apps in the browser before purchasing them. Unlike Google Play, the Amazon Appstore lacks a refund system for app purchases, and this is why Test Drive was often considered as one of the best features of Amazon's alternate Android app marketplace.

Amazon says that it has discontinued the feature due to a significant drop in usage, quoting the rise of the 'free to play' business model ...

Here's how to request the desktop version of a website in Safari on your iPhone or iPad
4/17/2015 8:56:00 AM

Safari, the default browser in iOS, is doing a respectable job at providing Apple fans with a pretty good web-browsing experience. Though it's relatively feature-less when you put it next to an Android browser, Safari will certainly give each and every one a run for their money in terms of performance and ease of use.

One of the pretty useful, yet not in-your-face features that Safari possesses is the ability to show you the full-blown desktop iteration of the website you're wasting your time on. There are a few reasons why you'd like to view the desktop website on your mobile device. ...

How to find downloaded files on Android
4/17/2015 8:47:00 AM

Android's openness is a cool thing no doubt – instead of having to go through funky "open in this app" and "open in that app" workarounds for each file, you can always just download a file to your device and then use any app you wish to read and edit it with.

Now, most of us will usually get the item we desire, open it up with whatever app is suggested, and save it or immediately export it to the cloud so we could use it for whatever it was meant for. But what happens with the downloaded files and can we access them again should we need them in the future?

Fear not, yes, we ...

How to scan a QR code on your iPhone
4/17/2015 8:41:00 AM

A QR code is a convenient and - most importantly - a universally accessible way to hide a message, a link, or another useful reference so that everyone with a smartphone (which practically means everyone nowadays) can read it.

A QR reader app - unfortunately - is not a built-in part of iOS 8 on your iPhone. So how do you read that code?

The answer is simple - you need a third-party app. For that you need to go into the Apple App Store, and just type down 'QR reader' to get a list of multiple available options. This way, you will have a dedicated QR reader always handy.

Having ...

9 industry trends that are poised to mark 2015
4/17/2015 8:03:00 AM

If you ever took an innovation course at school, it's very likely that the diffusion of innovations topic came up sooner rather than later. In case you didn't, or you slept through it, here's the main takeaway: Innovations take a long, long time to permeate the market.

Consider the case of the light-emitting diode (LED) that is at the core of modern light bulbs. First invented in 1927, it wasn't until decades later, in 1962, that we had the first production run of the thing. And today? The world has only recently (relatively speaking) started adopting LED bulbs on anything ...

LG G4 based on Snapdragon 808 allegedly captured on camera
4/17/2015 7:59:00 AM

A new photo that allegedly shows the LG G4 being powered by a Snapdragon 808 is making the rounds online today. The photo shows an Android smartphone running CPU-Z, an Android app that gathers system information, but we can't verify that this is indeed the LG G4, so make sure to retain a dose of skepticism regarding the validity of this leak.

LG is set to officially unveil the LG G4 on April 28th, but between the manufacturer teasing various features such as the high-resolution display and  the new user interface, and various leaks that reveal ...

The HTC One M9 might not be perfect, but it's still a remarkable phone made by a company with a vision. Premium build and top shelf hardware aside, the HTC flagship is blessed with a most wonderful user experience - HTC Sense 7.
