The Xperia Z4 announcement, the launch of Apple Watch, and Google's Project Fi: weekly news round-up
4/27/2015 8:55:00 AM

Once again, it is time for our weekly news round-up, where we put the most interesting stores from the past seven days for anyone who needs to catch up.

We'll start with a major (and quite expected, to be honest) announcement made by Sony. As you can already tell, the company announced its newest flagship phone, namely the Sony Xperia Z4. This is where all excitement ends, however, as the upgrade over the Z3 seems mostly insignificant.

In other news, the Apple Watch finally started shipping and landed in stores after being on pre-order ...

More Vivo X5Pro details leak: USB type-C, phase detection autofocus camera
4/27/2015 8:51:00 AM

When it comes to Chinese phone brands, it's Vivo at the top of the food chain, and the maker's price range usually reflects that. Oppo's parent company has Vivo as its upscale brand, outing a handset after handset with excellent specs and design, as well as innovative features. Besides outing the first phone with a Quad HD display, Vivo is known for being the media and design junkie's maker, as its handsets come with slim and premium chassis, dedicated audio processors, and camera-centric editions.

The latest from Vivo seems to be a midranger, dubbed X5 Pro, but what a midranger ...

See the Apple Watch get dropped, scratched, boiled, grated and dunked in ketchup
4/27/2015 8:08:00 AM

Apple protects its Watch with sapphire or tempered glass, depending on the model, but that doesn't mean a good ol' drop test isn't going to get done on its unsuspecting face, or that it will remain unscathed, regardless of how light and durable the accessory might sound.

In the trio of drop tests below, the Apple Watch, which will start you off at $350, gets subjected to a very plausible scenario - you are trying to put it on your wrist, adjusting the strap, and it falls from about waist height.

As you can see, the wearable doesn't take these drops ...

Samsung bows to demand, taps third factory to make curved screens for the Galaxy S6 edge
4/27/2015 7:44:00 AM

Two months in advance from a planned July launch, Samsung has opened a third factory to meet demand for the Galaxy S6 edge, Bloomberg reports. After underestimating the customer attention its curved screen flagship smartphone could generate, Samsung saw itself unable to make enough units for the masses. The good news is, if you've been unable to grab ahold of a Galaxy S6 edge, Samsung's new A3 production line is probably making one for you right now. The establishment enables an increased monthly output of about 5 million units, up from previously achieved 2 million units. Reportedly, Samsung expects ...

Here are the best and worst iPhones of all time according to you
4/27/2015 7:35:00 AM

Just as you might imagine, we've reviewed all of Apple's iPhones, all 10 of them. That's why we decided to show you a list with all iOS smartphones last week, sorted in accordance to the ratings they have received in our reviews.

It turned out that the latest one are not necessarily the best-rated. For example, the original Apple iPhone was ranked 7th, the worst one was the Apple iPhone 3G, and the ...

Snapdragon 810's heat issues might be of Qualcomm's own making
4/27/2015 7:28:00 AM

Samsung might have been wise to go with its own 14nm Exynos for the Galaxy S6 not only for business reasons - using its own superior SoC to save on the bill of materials - but also because of reports that the first batches of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 could not keep their cool the way the TSMC foundry was producing them.

Qualcomm went on a PR offensive after the reports, which is extremely rare for the company, touting the Snapdragon 810 virtues with LG, Sony, Motorola and others all lining up behind the chip maker, saying that they will all use the powerful silicon in their ...

Do you know what the "S" in Samsung's Galaxy S line stands for? The answer is super cheesy
4/27/2015 6:05:00 AM

Spend enough time on the internet, and you're likely to stumble upon just about every type of random trivia under our galaxy's warm sun. Today marks one such day, for we spotted a little-known (we guess) piece of Samsung PR that we couldn't help but marvel over. It has to do with the 'S' part of the Galaxy S line's name.

Unlike most other naming schemes, the S in your Galaxy S6 phone isn't just a random letter. And no, it doesn't stand for Samsung. Instead, said 2011 PR blast (the full body of which we've included at the bottom) announces a new naming ...

Spotlight: in this game, Obama and Putin ride mythical animals and battle communist zombies
4/27/2015 5:26:00 AM

Coming from the producers of "Fuhrer in LA", "Wrath Of Obama" is an action-strategy game about absurd, world politics-tinged humor. Basically, you spent the majority of the game as president Obama riding an amazing masked horse and commanding armies against the forces of comically evil Putin riding the mighty Russian bear.

As the game drags along, the two world leaders will have to face off against a new, deadlier... dead-er common enemy - zombies. Awoken by an undead Lenin-demon, hordes of communist zombie fiends rise from the graves to enforce the Marxist principles of ...

Not a fan of the Apple Watch? Check out these five notable Apple Watch competitors
4/27/2015 5:12:00 AM

The Apple Watch officially launched yesterday, although most of those who pre-ordered the device won't be able to get one in their hands for quite some time. With the Apple Watch not expected to be available for purchase from Apple Stores until June, and pre-order shipping dates for most models being pushed back to a June estimate, many potential customers are already starting to scan the market for competing products. If that's you, here is a list of the top five Apple Watch competitors.

One thing to bear in mind before moving on to the good stuff is ...

Three unannounced BlackBerry models are photographed
4/27/2015 4:38:00 AM

BlackBerry continues to churn ahead with the development of new models. Images of three new, unannounced phones were published on Monday. The first one is the sequel to the BlackBerry Passport, known as the BlackBerry Oslo. We've seen pictures of this handset earlier this month.

Expected to feature similar specs as the Passport including the 1440 x 1440 resolution screen, we should see a Snapdragon 800 chipset under the hood, a 13MP back-facing camera with OIS, and a large 3450mAh capacity battery. The phone will employ the same contextually aware physical and virtual QWERTY with the extra ...

How to command your Android phone from your computer (set alarms, reminders, notes, directions)
4/27/2015 4:31:00 AM

Google is starting to make it stupendously easy to control your Android phone from your computer for the most used functions. After introducing the ability to just type in a query about your phone's location in Google's search box, it continued with the option to send directions directly to your phone, if you are in a hurry to get somewhere.

Now, Google is pumping further on that trend, letting you transfer quick notes, and even set alarms on your phone, all from the comfort (and full-size keyboard) of your computer.

Here's what you need ...

32MP selfies? Yes, says Vivo, teases an ultra-detailed front-facing camera for its X5 Pro
4/27/2015 4:20:00 AM

Vivo is by no means a well-known or a mainstream manufacturer, but it often surprises us with its devices. For instance, its Vivo X5 Max is among the thinnest smartphones we've ever seen (it was merely 4.8mm in its thickest part). From the looks of it, Vivo's upcoming X5 Pro might also have an interesting and compelling feature.

Vivo just teased that its upcoming device will allow you to take ultra-detailed 32MP selfies. Yep, you read that right! The front-facing camera of the Vivo X5 Pro will probably let you see all of your little imperfections, wrinkles, and blemishes. ...

Samsung already testing Exynos chipset with custom CPU cores for the Galaxy S7?
4/27/2015 3:46:00 AM

In early April, it was brought to our attention that Samsung doesn't plan to rely on stock ARM cores to keep up with mobile processor evolution. The technological giant is designing custom CPU cores codenamed Mongoose, which will employ ARMv8 architecture. Rumors suggest the silicon is being worked on since 2011 and is currently deep in testing. We already got to learn elaborate details, such as the core's reported maximum clock speed (2.3GHz) and preliminary benchmark result that posted 45% better single-core performance than the Exynos 7420 in the Galaxy S6. This means the new CPU could bring ...
