ZTE Nubia Z9 render shows a screen curved to the sides, first Samsung Galaxy S6 edge "copycat"?
4/13/2015 4:26:00 AM

The ZTE Nubia Z9 has been strutting its stuff recently and it's definitely one with looks to fall in love with. It's another Chinese smartphone with very little side screen bezels to speak of, but this one also carries the proud heritage of ZTE's premium Nubia brand. Nubia phones aren't very popular outside China, because ZTE is yet to make a move towards the global market with them. But for the most part, we're talking modern specs and really good design - most beautifully, the Nubia Z9 appears to be the culmination of both!

As you can see in this newly leaked press render, ...

Like it or not, 4K smartphone displays are heading towards us, and there's nobody left to stop them! After Samsung casually hinted at 4K AMOLED displays for the upcoming Galaxy Note 5, Japanese purveyor of IGZO screens and border-less smartphones Sharp climbed on the stage to announce the world's first 5.5-inch mobile display with a 2160 x 3840 pixels Ultra-HD (4K) resolution. The panel is scheduled for mass production in 2016, and comes with a mind-boggling pixel density of 806 pixels per inch.

Looking a little ahead, the announcement is made even crazier by the perspective ...

Spotlight: Qualcomm's Trepn Profiler app spills the beans on your chipset's workings, hunts down misbehaving apps
4/13/2015 2:31:00 AM

Qualcomm surprised us this morning by launching an Android app that wears its geek insignia with pride. It's called Trepn Profiler, and its job is profiling devices powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors! But what kind of profiling is that? Well, Qualcomm designed Trepn with both casual and power users in mind.

For starters, the information it shows you can help pinpoint apps that overwork the CPU, eat away at data, and drain your device's battery - which is great if you just installed a new messenger app or whatever, and your device has been acting up since. And if ...

Want to make the pictures on your Windows Phone 8.1 look more intense? Check out the updated Adobe Photoshop Express app in the Windows Phone Store. The update allows you to control the intensity of your pictures. And the app even has something in common with your car, a Defog feature. For a limited time, you can access features that normally would require an in-app purchase for free by using your Adobe ID (which also is free). This will give you the capability to use Reduce Noise, Defog, and Premium Looks. All of these features ...

11 arguably awesome smartphones with leather (or leather-like) rear covers
4/12/2015 11:57:00 PM

Not long ago, Samsung had a little obsession with faux-leather back covers for some of its handsets. And while Samsung may have been the first major smartphone maker to popularize this, other companies have pushed things further, creating handsets that incorporate real leather into their designs. In both cases (real vs. synthetic), most smartphones that use leather have a distinct look compared to other devices on the market.

We wanted to see how many smartphones with leather (or leather-like) backs were out there, and we discovered more than we'd expected. Join us below to take a look ...

4/12/2015 11:46:00 PM

A report in Monday's Wall Street Journal says that Sprint is going to be testing a new program that will have the carrier hand delivering new phones to subscribers. The program will originally be tested in Kansas City where the company has its headquarters. Later this month, the plan will be tested in Miami and Chicago.
