There are a lot of quite awesome and intriguing icon packs for Android - normally, a handful of noteworthy ones appear on Google Play each and every day. However, keeping tabs on all of these is quite a cumbersome task, even for those who are into such things.

This is why we regularly show you the icon packs that have recently made ...

Poll: What will Android 6.0 "M" be called?
4/27/2015 3:25:00 AM

Back in October 2014, Google announced the Nexus 6 – the first device to come with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. Not everyone, however, knew that Lollipop would end up being called... well, Lollipop! Indeed, while a production version of the major software update took a while to reach the market, the code was nevertheless available to developers and power users who wanted to preview it as early as June. Only one problem – it was called Android L back then. That's right, just 'L'.

If you asked Google about this apparent omission back ...

White BlackBerry Classic arrives this week in selected regions
4/27/2015 3:14:00 AM

The idea for the BlackBerry Classic came about when it was noted that older BlackBerry 7 models were outselling BlackBerry 10 handsets. One model in particular, the BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 was outselling many of the newer handsets. When launched in 2011, the Bold 9930 was the manufacturer's flagship model with a spectacular physical QWERTY keyboard, the best BlackBerry browser to date, and a touchscreen.

Many BlackBerry faithful had expressed their desire to own the BlackBerry 9900/9930 if only it could be offered with BlackBerry 10 running the show. Since there was no way to update BlackBerry ...

Xiaomi Mi 4i gets a teardown by Hugo Barra, your pressing questions get answered
4/27/2015 2:27:00 AM

The Xiaomi team, led by the ex-Googler Hugo Barra, has taken part in an internal teardown of its new value-for-money champ, the Mi 4i, and answered a bunch of pressing questions about it. First off, for the thought on anyone's mind - yes, Xiaomi is considering a 64 GB version of the handset, but is waiting for some user feedback on whether it will really be needed.

With just a single 16 GB model, of which about 11 GB are user-available, we'd say that user feedback will start pouring on Xiaomi's unsuspecting head honchos sooner rather than later, as Hugo Barra mentioned ...

Is a 5.5-inch phone too large for you: poll results
4/27/2015 2:26:00 AM

Last week, we asked you one hugely important question in regards to smartphones: is a phone with a 5.5-inch display (or larger) too big for you?

Phones these days seems to come in two conventional sizes: the regular size for a flagship display hovers from around 4.7 inches to 5.2 inches, while the other big category is that of phablets where screens are commonly between 5.5 inches and... likely, infinity (Huawei's P8 Max claims it's a phone, yet it packs an enormously huge 6.8-inch screen!). It's true that there is a big difference between 5.5-inch phones ...

Report confirms that the bezel-less edges on the ZTE Nubia Z9 will be used for special functions
4/27/2015 2:24:00 AM

Last week, we told you how ZTE is all pumped up about the bezel-less Nubia Z9 flagship. The manufacturer posted images comparing the capabilities of the handset with the QWERTY keyboard on early Nokia phones, and the touchscreen on the OG Apple iPhone. Using the edge of the Nubia Z9's screen, where the bezel would normally go, will allow the user to set off certain functions. ZTE calls this the "third interaction revolution" following Nokia and Apple.

Some screenshots and other images leaked by ZTE GM Ni Fei indicate that this feature will be called FiT for Fringe Interactive technology. ...

LG's G4 to undercut Samsung's Galaxy S6 in Germany (and Europe?), but only with the base model
4/27/2015 2:19:00 AM

For a week or so now, pricing rumors concerning the LG G4 have been claiming that the company's most high profile flagship for the year will cost more than the Samsung Galaxy S6. With just a day left until we get official word (hopefully) on that, it's plausible for third-parties that find themselves a part of LG's distribution chain to now have a heads-up.

This appears to be the case with select German retailers, who already have pricing info up on their sites. Dug out by WinFuture, the prices are actually below expectations, as the 32GB version of the G4 is set to undercut ...

Here's a gallery of graphic broken Apple Watch photos because reality isn't kind to electronics
4/27/2015 2:17:00 AM

As technology defies nature to make our lives easier, nature strikes back with the screen-shattering, surface-damaging effects of gravity and impact. Unfortunately, despite Apple's efforts to whip the Apple Watch into military-grade shape, the device turned out as delicate as all mobile devices. Mere days after it got to users' hands, we already have a gallery of horrors showing broken screens and scratched cases.

Although the $350 Apple Watch Sport sports a hardened glass layer that's difficult to scratch unless you really dig into it, the material won't survive an impact ...

Did you know: In Brazil, the most expensive Apple Watch costs north of $30k, least expensive starts at $625
4/27/2015 1:52:00 AM

The Apple Watch is the company's most personal, first truly wearable piece of technology, and as the first lucky buyers have already received  their units and started experiencing life with the timepiece, others have not had that opportunity on an equal footing.

An interesting comparison has surfaced showing the outrageous difference in pricing of the Apple Watch in various countries, and Brazil is one of the victim countries where the Apple Watch costs much more than the company charges for it in the United States. The reason likely lies in local taxes and not Apple ...

How to send a file via Bluetooth on Android (Samsung Galaxy S6 tutorial)
4/27/2015 1:35:00 AM

Bluetooth is a low-power connectivity standard that is now used mostly for connecting wearables and other accessories to your smartphone, which serves as the main hub for them. However, you can also use Bluetooth to send files between Android devices, an old-fashioned way that may not be the fastest one (hence, it's not appropriate for transfers of large files, but still fine for images, for example), but still gets the job done.

Bluetooth is an easy way to share small files between two phonesLuckily, all Android smartphones nowadays come with ...

XDA developer gets Android Wear to (partially) power the Samsung Gear 2
4/27/2015 1:28:00 AM

So let's assume that you own the Tizen powered Samsung Gear 2, but what you really want is for the watch to be powered by Android Wear. After all, with Android Wear you can use Google Now, employ voice recognition, and take advantage of the much larger developer support for the platform. Well, you could always purchase the Samsung Gear Live which is indeed powered by Android Wear, but who wants to have to spend more money to buy a new watch?

The good news is that an XDA member with the handle of biktor_gj has ported over Android Wear to the Samsung Gear 2. Not all of the features are working, ...

Consumer Reports tests Apple Watch
4/27/2015 12:12:00 AM

Consumer Reports buys the products it tests from retail outlets, just like any other consumer. Out of eight Apple Watches ordered by Consumer Reports, six arrived on Friday. The six that arrived were split between the Apple Watch Sport entry-level model made of aluminum, and the stainless-steel clad Apple Watch model.

Consumer Reports tested the watches for abrasions and scratches using "pics" that were hardened to a certain degree. The Apple Watch Sport screen made with Ion-X glass survived a pic hardened to match a pocket knife. It took a pic as hard as a mason drill bit to afflict damage ...

How to change Google keyboard settings on Android Lollipop
4/26/2015 11:57:00 PM

Please note: this is a tutorial for inexperienced users.

Assuming you're using Google's default keyboard on your Android Lollipop device (instead of relying on a third-party keyboard), you may not like all its default settings. Well, that's not really a problem, since Google allows us to change a lot of things regarding its keyboard (from the way it looks, to turning on or off auto capitalization).

In order to change your Google keyboard settings, you first need to access the main Settings menu on your Android device, then look for the Language & input menu. There, you'll find ...

Color us surprised: Analyst says smartphones will be leading consumer electronics item in 2015
4/26/2015 11:46:00 PM

In the "captain obvious" department, global research company GfK says that smartphones will lead in the consumer electronics category this year.

Jürgen Boyny is the director of GfK Retail and Technology, and speaking at an IFA 2015 conference in Malta, he says that with prices of smartphones continuing to decline, they will be the leading consumer electronics item for 2015.

The largest growth areas will be in developing markets, Asia and Africa, up 6% this year. More developed markets like the United States and Europe will continue to see growth, albeit more modest at 3% and 2% respectively.

Globally, ...

How to run 3 apps at the same time on your Samsung Galaxy Note 4
4/26/2015 11:20:00 PM

There are many fields of expertise the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 excels at, and one of them is multitasking. Thanks to its large screen, powerful hardware, and Multi Window mode, the phone can easily juggle between multiple apps and even run them side by side. But while the said Multi Window mode is optimized for running 2 apps simultaneously, there's a trick that lets you open a third one in a hovering window. Here's how you do that.

For this extreme multitasking trick to work, you'll need to have Multi Window enabled. Pull down your notifications panel and scroll through the list of toggle ...

Is this the new Sony flagship that "the rest of the world" is getting instead of the Xperia Z4?
4/26/2015 11:11:00 PM

When the Sony Xperia Z4 was officially announced by Sony earlier this month, the manufacturer said that the model was being sold in Japan only. Almost immediately, rumors started flying about another flagship phone that Sony is going to produce for the rest of the world. The company is supposed to unveil this second flagship at the end of next month.

Today, a leak has possibly revealed the name, design and specs of this phone. The schematics of a device called the Sony Xperia P2 were posted on a Chinese website showing a different design than previous Xperia flagship models. The TRILUMINOS ...
