Xiaomi H3Y may be the Redmi Note 2, to pack 1080p screen
4/14/2015 9:18:42 AM

Xiaomi has two event scheduled for April, one tomorrow and one for April 23. The second one is likely for the Xiaomi Mi 4i (aka Ferrari), but the one tomorrow may be for the Xiaomi H3Y - a new Redmi phone. The basic specs of the H3Y were revealed by @upleaks and include a 1080p screen and a fast MediaTek MT6795 chipset. The new Redmi phone will launch with MIUI 6 based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. The camera department will feature a 13MP shooter courtesy of Samsung (S5K3M2) and a 5MP selfie camera from OmniVision (OV5670). These specs sound similar to what's rumored for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, except with an upgraded screen and chipset. The expected price is CNY 1,500...

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge land on multiple UK carriers
4/14/2015 8:30:16 AM

Brits can now grab a Samsung Galaxy S6 or a Galaxy S6 edge from a number of retailers. Note that only the phones with smaller storage capacities are available, you'll have to wait a couple of weeks for the 64GB and 128GB models. You'll have to wait for a Gold one too. The Carphone Warehouse has both the S6 and S6 edge. The Galaxy S6 starts at £40 a month for the 32GB model. The Gold and 64GB models are coming in 2-3 weeks, while the 128GB options are at least a month out. The Galaxy S6 edge starts at £100 upfront and £47 a month for the 64GB model (no 32GB option). Black 64GB phones will be in stock in 1-2 weeks, the rest will take 2-3 weeks or longer to hit the shelves. EE has the 32GB Galaxy S6 at £10 upfront and £47 a month for two years, again the Gold model will arrive a bit later. The carrier doesn't have 128GB versions for either the S6 or S6 edge, but the 64GB Galaxy S6 edge is coming next week at £30 upfront and £58.50 a month. The Gold model is 3 weeks out. Then there's Three, which is asking £50 upfront and £39 a month for the 32GB Galaxy S6, there's a 128GB option but it's listed as out of stock. The Gold color option will be delayed only a couple of days though. The Galaxy S6 edge starts at £50 upfront and £48 a month and here the Gold model will actually beat the White and Black ones to market by a few days. Vodafone will charge you £49 a month for a 32GB Galaxy S6 and £59 for a 64GB Galaxy S6 edge plus £10 upfront. 64GB and 128GB versions for both models are coming in a few weeks later. O2 is asking nothing upfront for a 32GB S6 and £10 for a 64GB S6 edge. The monthly bills are £46 and £52.50 respectively. Gold models are listed as "In stock". Then there's Tesco Mobile which is offering the Galaxy S6 32GB at £36 a month and the Galaxy S6 edge 64GB at £43.50 a month. Note that all units are currently sold out but Tesco is expecting more stock in a few...

Yonhap: Korean Galaxy S6 sales reach record numbers
4/14/2015 7:46:18 AM

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge launched a few days ago and according to a Samsung official quoted by Yonhap News the flagship duo is on track to meet the high expectations analysts had before launch. Analysts kept increasing the predictions of how many S6 units in total Samsung will sell this year, eventually settling on 55 million. The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are surpassing the sales of any previous Galaxy S phone in its home country of South Korea. Samsung is now scrambling to meet demand but shortages may last a month of more before manufacturing capacity matches demand. More surprising is the composition - the pricier Samsung Galaxy S6 edge accounts for half the sales. Going by reported numbers, Samsung was predicting the regular S6 to outsell the S6 edge 3:1, but it seems that the dual-curved screen is getting a much warmer reception than expected. T-Mobile is reporting great sales too. We don't have exact numbers for now, Samsung's Q1 report came just before the S6 launch. It's not entirely clear what happened to the impending sales ban on SK Telecom and how (if?) it will affect the Galaxy S6 sales. Source (Paywall) |...

More cases for the Xperia Z4 leak, or is it the Xperia Z3 Neo
4/14/2015 7:04:47 AM

Yet more alleged cases for the Sony Xperia Z4 have leaked, this time including semi-transparent cases and flip cases. A separate rumor casts doubt on this and recent leaks about the Z4, saying that what we are seeing is merely a revamped Z3. Alleged cases for the Sony Xperia Z4 The smartphone would be called Sony Xperia Z3 Neo (similar to Sony Ericsson's Neo apparently) and it's slated for a launch in May/June. The real Xperia Z4 is said to be unveiled at IFA Berlin this September or perhaps in November. HTC recently unveiled one One M8s, upgrading its last year's model and Samsung usually releases revamped versions of its Galaxy S flagships (labeled LTE-A or Plus). So it's not without precedent, but it sounds like Sony may be going back to the two flagships a year schedule, except with a different naming scheme. Yes, the label on the pink cases states "For Sony Z4" though case makers are not exactly privy to what the company is planning beyond the dimensions and shape of its upcoming products. Finnish luxury maker Legend decks out Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge
4/14/2015 6:22:31 AM

Sometimes even Gorilla Glass 4 front and back nested into quality metal aren't premium enough and in these cases one has to turn to makers like Helsinki-native Legend. The luxury company has a selection of hand-made custom Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge decked out in 24K or 18K gold, rose gold, platinum and black rhodium plating. For a bit of extra cash fashion-savvy users can get the limited edition Crocodylus (in any color specified by the customer), Wild Thing and Alhambra - but keep in mind the three are extremely limited in quantity - 50, 10 and 10 units respectively. 24KT gold, 18KT gold, Rose gold, Platinum and Black Rhodium Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge The "base" model will cost you €2,150 (around $2,270). For an extra €200 you can get something laser-engraved onto the phone and a final €100 more will get you the limited edition models for a total of €2,300. 24KT gold, 18KT gold, Rose gold, Platinum and Black Rhodium Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge But Legend has you covered better than Samsung too - for starters the maker applies a thin clearcoat formula to its designs for a lasting shine and finish to materials. The retail box will feature a luxury design and finish too and will come with proof of authenticity and a 5 year warranty. Huawei P8 leaks in promo poster, still missing a fingerprint sensor
4/14/2015 5:31:30 AM

Huawei is finding a hard time keeping the upcoming P8 flagship under wraps. The handset went as far as showing up in live images a few days ago and now a promotional poster has been leaked revealing its color options. Apparently the smartphone will be available in a choice of 4 colors, with black, white, silver and gold models pictured. The black bar on the top of the smartphone's rear, at least on the gold model, does not look like a particularly stylish design decision though. The poster is yet another confirmation of the smartphone's premium build showing the slim 6.6mm profile and extensive use of metal. The smartphone is set to pack a proprietary Kirin 935 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and a 5.2-inch FullHD display. What it doesn't disclose is whether the smartphone will have a fingerprint reader of any sort. Previously leaked cases suggested a rear mounted unit, much like on the Ascend Mate7, but TENAA certification ruled that out and the latest rumor is that the feature will be implemented in the tiny power button on the side. The Huawei P8 is set to debut tomorrow, so the wait is almost over, and we'll soon have official word on all the uncertainties in terms of the flagship's design and features. Source | Via (in...

Gresso gives the iPhone 6 a luxury treatment
4/14/2015 4:51:07 AM

Gresso, the US company that become famous for its luxury mobile devices, has now decided to stud into Apple territory. The latest piece of opulent tech it added to its portfolio is the iPhone 6, but a version complete with exclusive materials, like titanium and 18K gold. The iPhone 6 by Gresso bears pretty much the same visual style as the manufacturer's recent Regal Android line and also employs most of the same materials and crafting techniques. Looking at the photos, most of the customization on the Apple device has been done to the back, while the front glass and button have been left unchanged. The phone comes in three hand-crafted flavors. The G1 features a titanium case and 64GB of onboard memory, while the more-expensive G2 and G3 have a black PVD coating and 128GB of storage. All three feature an engraved logo and unit number, ranging from 1 to 999 for each of the models. In the G1 it is placed on top of a titanium plate, in the G2, it is made of 18K white gold and the G3 gets it in yellow gold. Gresso refers to the design as "Luxury Minimalism" and frankly, we have seen a lot weirder and questionable attempts at bringing luxury to a handset. The US company also boasts improved durability in the handcrafted devices. Directional polishing is courtesy of a single craftsman and upwards of 4 hours of manual labor. Naturally, the price tags are quite beefy. The "budget" G1, void of gold and PVD is priced at $3000, while the G2 and G3 come in at $5000. The phones are already available on the manufacturer's website, so high-rolling Gresso fans can now opt for an iOS device as...
