Huawei P8 unboxing
4/20/2015 5:59:00 PM

Things are still relatively cool for the most part, considering we've just recently entered spring, but boy are things heating up in the smartphone world. Already, we've been treated to several notable flagships in the space this year, such as the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the HTC One M9, so we're dying to see what else is on the horizon. Next up on the list, though, is none other than the Huawei P8, which was announced last week in the UK. Going off the momentum from the event, we've recently secured our hands on a final edition of the handset.

There's no denying that Huawei approaches ...

4/20/2015 5:37:00 PM

YouTube has changed its supported API to version 3 from version 2. This has forced certain Windows Phone powered YouTube apps like MetroTube to push out an update to support the new API, or face the prospect of not working. MetroTube's latest update to version 4.6.0.0 does allow the app to connect to the new API, which means that subscribers will be able to use the app.

In addition to MetroTube, another YouTube app for the Windows Phone platform called myTube is also going through an update (to version 2.1.0.0) so that it can use the new YouTube API. With the update, myTube now allows users ...

Cyanogen 12 update for OnePlus One stopped to add one feature
4/20/2015 2:52:00 PM

The Cyanogen 12 update for the OnePlus One has been temporarily halted. But this was not done for a negative reason. Phones weren't getting bricked and there were no issues with the update that would cause OnePlus to take this action. Instead, the manufacturer wanted to freeze the OTA dissemination of the update in order to include a new feature for OnePlus One users. This was announced by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei in a tweet he sent out this morning.

The feature that Pei is alluding to is the one that allows users to say the phrase "O.K. OnePlus" to activate certain capabilities of the ...

New Samsung commercial presents the Galaxy S6 as "the smartphone of your dreams"
4/20/2015 2:08:00 PM

Samsung has already released quite a few Galaxy S6 and S6 edge commercials and TV ads (see here, here, or here), and it even made a couple of unique unboxing videos. But that doesn't mean it's done with videos that promote the two new flagships.

The newest video made by Samsung showcases the Galaxy S6's fast charging feature, as well as its wireless charging capabilities, and the Ultra Power Saving mode (which, of course, is also available on other Samsung handsets). The video is fun to watch, and ends with Samsung saying that you could just call the S6 "the smartphone of your dreams." ...

70-second Apple Watch boot sequence captured on camera
4/20/2015 1:47:00 PM

The Apple Watch isn't set to launch until this Friday, but the smartwatch sure managed to draw a lot of attention since pre-orders launched on April 10th. In a video that surfaced yesterday on YouTube, a demo Apple Watch unit is put through its start-up/boot sequence. It took 70 seconds for the device to boot up and show the watch face, which is more than double the time that the iPhone 6 needs to get past the Apple logo.

Obviously, there's a huge difference in terms of processing power between the two Apple devices. The iPhone 6 comes with an Apple A8 chip, one of the fastest ...

MediaTek's MT6735 SoC beats the Snapdragon 410 chipset in benchmark tests
4/20/2015 12:23:00 PM

A new report published today reveals some of the specs for the MediaTek MT6735 SoC. The chipset was introduced late last year and features a quad-core processor that has a clock speed topping out at 1.3GHz. The MT6735 is paired with the Mali-T720 GPU, which can support a screen with a 1080 x 1920 resolution.

The MT6735 does have a couple of variants. The MT6735M and the MT6735P also come with the Mali-T720 GPU, but clocked at a lower speed. The former has a GPU that weighs in at 600MHz meaning that it can handle screens with a resolution no higher than 720 x 1280. The latter chip has a ...
