Since Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge more than a month ago, numerous reports argued that Samsung has been receiving a record-breaking number of pre-orders for the Galaxy S6 series from carriers worldwide, and now it looks like these reports might have been accurate.

J.K. Shin, head of Samsung's mobile divison, spoke at a media event on Thursday, and confirmed that Samsung expects ...

Monsters from Asia: the ZTE Nubia Z9 Max and its impressive, bleeding edge innards
4/9/2015 7:06:00 AM

Xiaomi, a Chinese superstar start-up, created waves so large that it ended up dictating the rules of what is proving to be a new, winning formula of doing business in the area – online sales. That way, manufacturers spend far less money on inventory, real estate, and staff, and can compete better on price. To further lower costs, new hot products are usually only available through weekly flash sales, keeping demand and supply in balance, and avoiding any nasty surprises. There's another benefit in the long run – just a few months can equal non-trivial savings on component ...

Dell's Venue 10 7000 aims to be your productivity-focused Android tablet
4/9/2015 6:54:00 AM

Remember the Dell Venue 8 7000, the amazingly thin Android tablet that Dell launched back in January? Well, the company has just announced the similar but larger Dell Venue 10 7000, a tablet aimed at business customers. In many ways, the new tablet is highly similar to its smaller brother, but there are some notable differences to take into account as well.

The Dell Venue 10 7000 comes with a 10.5-inch AMOLED display running at 1600 by 2560 pixels, and the extra screen real estate is the reason why Dell hopes businesses will use the new tablet for their productivity purposes, although Android ...

Poll results: How often do you use your phone's personal assistant (Google Now, Siri, Cortana)?
4/9/2015 5:41:00 AM

Like wearable tech, nobody is really certain that digital assistants can or will disrupt the current status quo, at least in the short term. Yet, most of us see the potential there, and some are already actively making use of it. What percentage, however? Without surveying the general public, it's hard to tell. So, on Tuesday, we did exactly that, asking you to share with the rest of us just how often you use your phone's digital assistant, whether her/its name is Siri, Cortana, or Google Now.

Since the poll ran for just under 48 hours, the turn-up wasn't ...

Latest Samsung Galaxy S6 edge promo video shows how the curved flagship is assembled by hand
4/9/2015 3:48:00 AM

Samsung just released a new promotional video for the Galaxy S6 edge, and the reel starkly contrasts the cavalcade of footage showing people unboxing, torturing, smashing, beating, shooting, and otherwise disintegrating its wonderful curved screen flagship. How so? It's an "in-boxing" video! That is, instead of watching some dude share his experience of prying open the GS6 edge's retail box and smashing it on the floor with some Danzig tunes in the background, you'll be watching a professionally filmed Korean dude assemble a GS6 edge part by part and place it in a retail box to the gentle backing ...

6 flagship smartphones that came defective or broken out of the box
4/9/2015 3:44:00 AM

"When life gives you lemons, make lemonade" - is what wise people say. Apparently, said people of profound wisdom never had their brand new high-end smartphone handed to them looking like it got through all of history's bloodiest conflicts at once. Which is strange, as it is a known fact that smartphones see the highest return rate among electronic devices, the main reason being defective products. It's hardly any wonder, though - producing, packing, and shipping our beloved gizmos from Asia to the rest of the world is a mighty complicated process whose success depends on much more than strict ...

Note 5 could come with UHD 2160×3840 pixels display, and a dual-edge version with record 762ppi
4/9/2015 3:14:00 AM

Samsung confirmed in its Analyst Days presentation slides a while ago that it has a Ultra HD 2160 x 3840 pixels Super AMOLED displays for mobile in the works for 2015, as you can see above. Also, at a Semiconductor and Display Technology Roadmap workshop last year, Samsung presenters hinted again at having higher-resolution UHD smartphone displays in the pipeline. These resolutions, however, were mentioned then together with the "diamond pixel" term, which is a fancy way to say a non-standard pixel matrix arrangement, that is closer to PenTile, than the standard RGB ...

So, which picture did you like most last time? The answer is Gabriel Bobon's photo, taken with the LG G3. And a pretty well-deserved first place it is, we should say!

Of course, there are many other incredible images left to be seen. Let's continue with another set of 10 pics, each of which can easily convince even the most professionally-inclined photographer that cell phones are more than a toy in the ...

Some Apple Watch models will take six weeks to ship, so don't line up outside the Apple Store
4/9/2015 2:54:00 AM

Thinking of pre-ordering an Apple Watch? Well, you'll either have to think different and postpone the happiness until Apple sorts out the constrained supply of its wearable, or gear up for a four to six week wait post pre-ordering. Although eager buyers can place their pre-orders as early as tomorrow at 12:01 am PDT through Apple's website or iTunes, it may take the company until May to deliver the goods.

We learn of this from Apple's German and UK online stores, where different Apple Watch models and their respective shipment times have been listed. It looks like the Apple ...

Asus Zenfone 2 with 4 GB RAM pops up on Amazon with a sub-$400 price tag
4/9/2015 2:23:00 AM

The basic 5" version of the Zenfone 2 will start you off at the equivalent of just $158 without any subsidies, at least on the Asus home turf of Taiwan, while on Amazon it arrives with a $219 stamp. That's still a great price for the entry level Zenfone 2, but all gazes are upon the decked-out 4 GB RAM model with the 5.5" 1080p display, and 32/64 GB of storage out of the box.

This one costs just 8990 NT$, which returns about USD 285 - a pretty stellar tag for such a beast. Granted, when the Zenfone 2 commenced its global rollout, the pricing went higher the further it goes to the ...

Disney bans selfie sticks from rides and attractions at its parks
4/9/2015 1:53:00 AM

Much of the public sees someone using a selfie stick as being on the same level as a Google Glass wearer. Hey, they don't call those donning the connected specs Glassholes for nothing. Recently, a relative of ours came back from Universal's theme park in Orlando complaining that everyone was carrying selfie sticks.

For those who have slept through 2014 and the opening months of this year, a selfie stick resembles a broomstick with a contraption at the end that holds your smartphone safely in place. It allows you to snap a selfie of a large group (which defeats the purpose of taking a selfie) ...
