O Canada: Rogers is first of the "Big Three" to offer Voice-over-LTE
4/1/2015 11:02:00 PM

Rogers Communications in the great white north of Canada is the first of the national carriers to deploy Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) service. For now, the only device that supports it is the LG G3 Vigor, though naturally, Rogers will expand that line-up through the year.

VoLTE allows carriers to handle voice calls over the 4G high-speed network without having to rely on traditional circuit-switched protocols. For the customer, the result is reduced time to set-up a call, and HD voice quality.

For the carriers, it allows much more efficient use and management of spectrum, effectively increasing ...

BlackBerry Leap can be pre-ordered in U.S., U.K. and Germany, but not Canada
4/1/2015 10:22:00 PM

Last month, BlackBerry outed the BlackBerry Leap, an all-touch handset that is powered by the latest and greatest build of BlackBerry, 10.3.1. Just a few days ago we showed you an official video from BlackBerry that starred the Leap. As March came to an end, BlackBerry started accepting pre-orders for the device in the U.S., U.K. and Germany. For some reason, in its home country BlackBerry is not accepting pre-orders for the model.

In the U.S., the BlackBerry Leap is priced at $275. While the phone cannot be reserved in Canada, the manufacturer has put up a price of $349 (Canadian) on ...

Sony Xperia Cosmos expected to be launched as the Xperia C4
4/1/2015 9:50:00 PM

A few weeks ago, when we first saw the unannounced Sony Xperia Cosmos, we assumed that this could be the successor to last year's Xperia C3. It looks like we were right: according to @upleaks, the Cosmos will be called Xperia C4 once it hits the market.

But we know that it's going to run Android 5.0 Lollipop, and should be powered by an unknown processor made by MediaTek. Also, as you can see in the images below, it's obvious that the C4 has a large front-facing camera with LED flash, but it's not clear ...

4/1/2015 6:36:00 PM

Out of China today comes word of a new Oppo handset, powered by the octa-core Snapdragon 615. The Oppo R is a metal-framed device that resembles the previously introduced Oppo R1C. The new "R-series" handset has a svelte design and supports the use of dual SIM slots with 4G LTE connectivity.

The Oppo R features a 5-inch display with resolution of 1080 x 1920. That works out to a pixel density of 441ppi. Under the hood you will find the 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 CPU with 2GB of RAM inside. No information was leaked about the amount of native storage on board, but we do expect there ...

You can test the Microsoft Surface 3 before its launch (without any appointment)
4/1/2015 4:33:00 PM

Microsoft yesterday announced the Surface 3, the newest addition to its growing family of tablets, saying it will release it on May 5. Until then, you can already pre-order the slate, and even play with it in Microsoft Stores across the US and Canada. However, according to Windows Central, you can't just walk into a Microsoft Store and get your hands on the Surface 3. Instead, you'll have to call to make an appointment first, likely because the number of Surface 3 units on display is very limited. Update: A Microsoft spokesperson said that you don't really need an appointment, and "everyone" can ...
