4/6/2015 9:08:00 AM

Each and every high-end smartphone that enters our office is subjected to a thorough review – one meant to gather as much valuable information about it as possible. We cover anything from the phone's look and feel to the character tics of the hardware that goes inside it, from the way phone calls sound to the number of frames its GPU can draw when pushed to its limits. but as exhaustive as our reviews may be, we might still miss bits and details you might find interesting. That's why not long ago, we invited you to ask us anything about the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 ...

Three easy security apps to install and encrypt your Android communication (voice, chat, texts)
4/6/2015 8:40:00 AM

Ever since the NSA's snooping on our every line of communication became known, a new breed of apps has emerged, focused on security and encryption. It's exactly because of their decentralized nature and industrial-strength encryption, however, that a lot of handsets have problems running them, with either all kinds of problems making them functional, or too much force closure issues.

This is why we sifted through most of the security apps out there, and came up with a simple trio that not only encrypt your communication from prying government or other eyeballs, but also have ...

Samsung tops Apple in consumer loyalty benchmark
4/6/2015 8:37:00 AM

According to a recent report from SurveyMonkey, Apple is lagging behind arch-rival Samsung when it comes to consumer loyalty, although a separate set of benchmark data published by the same company reveals that Apple has the upper hand in customer service satisfaction benchmarks.

SurveyMonkey interviewed 5000 participants during the fourth quarter of 2014, and the results show that Apple and Samsung are both ahead of the consumer loyalty average score calculated for electronics and software companies. While the suggested average score in the consumer loyalty benchmark for such companies ...

How to trick your Galaxy S5 interface into becoming a Galaxy S6 one (Lollipop req'd)
4/6/2015 7:21:00 AM

Both the new Galaxy S6 and last year's Galaxy S5 sport Samsung's TouchWiz over Android 5.0 Lollipop, but the company has streamlined it further on the Galaxy S6, cleaning out the perplexing variety of options a bit, and introducing a tad less bloat. Another new thing is the inclusion of Microsoft apps out of the box. Microsoft's OneDrive cloud service, for instance, comes preinstalled on the S6, and with it arrive 115 GB of free storage for two years, pretty generous.

As usual, Samsung throws most every functionality imaginable in its TouchWiz interface, ...

T-Mobile cans the Sony Xperia Z3
4/6/2015 6:06:00 AM

It looks like Sony keeps having trouble selling its high-end Xperia Z smartphone series in the US. The Sony Xperia Z2 reached the United States a few good months after the smartphone's international release date, and now T-Mobile announced on Twitter that it has discontinued the Xperia Z3, the smartphone that Sony announced back in September 2014 at IFA Berlin.

The news comes as a T-Mobile rep recently responded to an inquiry on Twitter regarding the disappearance of the Sony Xperia Z3 from the carrier's website. The link posted by T-Mobile as a reply directs potential customers ...

Poll results: curved display on the Galaxy S6 edge - useful innovation or a gimmick?
4/6/2015 5:34:00 AM

Samsung currently has all eyes on its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge flagships, with an imminent launch this week, but it's the Edge that picked everyone's attention with its unorthodox side-sloping display, that is the only thing which separates it from the "plain" S6, if we don't count the slightly different dimensions, and the larger battery.

Galaxy S6 edge comes with a flexible AMOLED panel that has a plastic, instead of glass substrate, and bends over both the left and right edges of the new flagship, utilizing Samsung's proprietary 3D Thermoforming method. Besides the cool factor, these ...

Samsung Galaxy S6 edge vs Galaxy Note 4 user comparison results: we have a clear winner!
4/6/2015 5:20:00 AM

The Galaxy S6 edge already aiming at the topmost tier of Samsung's portfolio, as it's a pretty well-spec'd phone that is the most serious embodiment of Samsung's design and engineering prowess to date. Currently, the throne is occupied by the Galaxy Note 4, a noteworthy feature-packed phablet that comfortably sits at the top of Samsung's device range.

That's why last week we decided to ask you whether the Galaxy S6 edge is indeed a better phone than the venerable S Pen-enabled phablet, or the Note 4 still remains the undisputed ruler of Samsung's kingdom. Well, according ...

AT&T starts shipping the Samsung Galaxy S6 ahead of April 10th
4/6/2015 5:14:00 AM

AT&T appears to have joined Sprint and T-Mobile in shipping the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge ahead of the official release date. Multiple AT&T customers replied to a Reddit topic claiming that the carrier's website is now confirming that pre-orders are already shipping, with Tuesday, April 7th slated as the estimated delivery date. Apparently, pre-orders for both the S6 edge and the regular Galaxy S6 are now on their way towards customers. Other customers don't seem to be as lucky, as not all of AT&T's pre-orders started shipping ahead of time. Samsung's official release ...

Detailed LG G4 renders appear from a case maker
4/6/2015 4:47:00 AM

After teasing a bunch of Galaxy S6 renders wrapped within a case of its own before the phone was even announced, Spigen is at it again, this time anointing us with images of the LG G4 in its various wrapper lines.

As can be expected, the renders in question are at least partially based on these live images of the LG G4 s (or LG G4 Stylus), which is a good place to start if the company's last year's lineup is any indication (the G3, G3 s, and G3 Stylus all look very similar), but mostly on these leaked LG G4 press renders. We have a rather large cutout for the front-facing camera's lens, ...

The same, but better - even more Sony Xperia Z4 photos show up for your viewing pleasure
4/6/2015 4:41:00 AM

We got our hands on yet another set of leaked photos showing what appears to be the Sony Xperia Z4. Assuming this is the real deal - and we are 99% sure, because the model number in the second pic reads E6553 and corresponds to the Z4 - then this is another supremely sleek smartphone from Sony, even if its quality design feels all too familiar at this point. Then again, this is arguably the best a Xperia smartphone has ever looked, so no complaints here!

According to the ones who passed along the photos, the Xperia Z4 will be released in 1080p and 1440p screen resolution ...

Snapchat's transparency report indicates few law enforcement inquiries
4/6/2015 4:08:00 AM

The popular photo messaging platform, Snapchat, released its first transparency report where the company outlined the number of legal requests for information about some of the services' users.

Perhaps a reflection of the fact that Snapchat makes a habit of removing data from its servers as a matter of common practice, the company received 375 requests from US legal sources. When you consider that Snapchat handles roughly 800 million snaps per month, 375 is a pretty small number.

Other social platforms receive an order of magnitude many more legal requests for data, but they also ...

Best new Android widgets (April 2015)
4/6/2015 3:35:00 AM

Although iOS scored widget support last year, Android is still the undisputed king of widgets. Naturally, those who swear by Google and Android have tinkered with these; in the meantime, those heavily investing into customization are certainly always searching high and low for a new widget that will give a whole new flavor to their Android screens.

Surely, Google Play is the home ground of many a widget, and while we've already separated the wheat from the chaff numerous times, a multitude of new ones hits the app repository on a regular basis. That's why it's rather ...
