4/7/2015 12:09:00 PM

So, you're waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S6 to launch? Or maybe it's the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge you've got your mind set on. Either way, you're not alone – Samsung is expecting to ship more than 50 million units of its new flagship smartphones. It's an optimistic figure, but not one that can't be met, it seems, as pre-orders for the S6 and S6 edge are going steadily. Both in the U.S. and internationally, at that.

Speaking of pre-orders for the new and hottest Galaxies, this post is all about their release date. Yeah, we know that the ...

How to turn your Home button into a Camera app shortcut like on the Galaxy S6 & edge
4/7/2015 9:47:00 AM

The Samsung Galaxy S6 & edge have this nifty feature of quickly launching the Camera app by just double-tapping on the physical Home button. But the cool party trick is that you can replicate part of the same functionality on any ol' Android smartphone (well, unless you're still running Gingerbread). The app Home2 Shortcut lets you assign whatever shortcut you please to any of your device's capacitive or software navigation buttons, then specifiy a gesture (double tap or something different), set a duration, and have your way! No root needed!

The only sad part here ...

iFixit tears down the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge – insides are neat, but tight
4/7/2015 9:20:00 AM

The guys over at iFixit got their hands on a Samsung Galaxy S6 edge and did what they do best – took it apart, slowly, patiently, and meticulously recording each and every step of the process. The handset's insides look neat, tidy, and snug, but overally – the phone is not much easier to take apart than the HTC One M9, which was torn down a couple of days ago. Access to the battery? No dice, as the juicebox is hidden behind layer upon layer of components.

Samsung's duo of flagships this year boast a design language, which has thus far been foreign to the company – a glass-and-metal construction, ...

Apple's upcoming iTunes Music streamer to duke it out with US antitrust regulators
4/7/2015 9:14:00 AM

Apple is prepping another music industry onslaught with its upcoming iTunes Music streaming service, bringing Beats Music into the fold, but the federal antitrust regulator is already on high alert about it, claim sources familiar with the matter.

Both the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice are holding preliminary talks with various music industry execs in order to determine if there has been any armtwisting for participation. It's hard to fathom why, given that Apple is somewhat late to the music streaming service party, but, considering its $180 billion ...

How often do you use your phone's personal assistant (Google Now, Siri, Cortana)?
4/7/2015 8:47:00 AM

When we released our comparison piece on the three main mobile platforms' respective personal assistants – Google Now (Android), Siri (iOS), and Cortana (Windows Phone) – we couldn't help but admire their sophistication at times. Sure, they're still far from perfect, and our educated guess is that it'll be years before they can come even close to replacing an actual human, and yet they can already do so much.

Want to know the score of last night's game? Easy. The weather forecast? Elementary. What about a detailed nutritional break-down of ...

HTC & Robinson Cano take deadly swings at the unsuspecting competition in this brutal One M9 ad
4/7/2015 8:42:00 AM

HTC is attacking the prime-time again, but his Robert Downey Junior-ness is nowhere to be found! This time, HTC enlisted another Iron Man - Robinson Cano, second baseman hitter for the Seattle Mariners! And boy, does the man pack mad baseball bat skill!

Playing on the smartphone destruction fad of recent, which saw all kinds of terrible things happen to Samsung and Apple flagships, Cano puts on a pair of dim sunglasses and goes on to literally demolish the HTC One M9 competition with accurate, lethal swings at the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the Apple iPhone 6, and the LG G3. ...

The update measures 203MB, and you'll have to download it through Wi-Fi as the Google Play edition of the LG G Pad 8.3 lacks cellular connectivity.

Although Android 5.1 Lollipop is not a major update over the 5.0 version of Android, the improvements ...

The best and worst Nokia smartphones we've ever reviewed
4/7/2015 8:01:00 AM

Back in the day, Nokia was the undisputed leader on the handset market, leaving its rivals trailing in the dust. Ah, glorious days of old! Unfortunately, due to one reason or another, Nokia failed to retain its positions and slowly stepped off the throne that it once held so dearly. Alas, Nokia, as we once knew it, is no longer in business, because it sold its Devices & Services divisions to Microsoft. Until Q4 2016, Nokia can't put its name on a smartphone.

Taking a look back in time, we can easily see that Nokia has been responsible for some of the most popular mobile ...

7 apps that every movie fanatic needs to have on their iPhone or iPad
4/7/2015 7:53:00 AM

Whether you occasionally re-watch the extended version of The Lord of the Rings, know Hitchcock's filmography by heart, or can't live a day without trawling the web for new movie trailers, you need to face the reality - you are a movie fanatic. If the latter are all true, then going to the cinema is certainly one of your favorite free-time activities, not to mention your enormous library of flicks that resemble a well-stocked pharmacy.

Some may argue that the seventh art is in decline due to the relative lack of ideas and Hollywood's oversaturation with franchise reboots ...
