HTC reports unauditied Q1 profit vs. a loss last year

HTC is continuing its financial turnaround as it reported an unaudited net profit of $11.6 million USD for the first quarter of 2015. That compares to a loss of $60 million USD for the same period last year. Unaudited revenue for this year's first three months amounted to $1.3 billion USD, up from the $1.06 billion USD that HTC took in during the first quarter last year.
While HTC's net and revenue were up over last year's first quarter, they were lower compared to the fourth quarter of 2014. Strong sales of the HTC One (M8) helped the company put in a solid 2014.

Huawei's P8 teaser video tells us to get ready to "see the new wonder of light"

We already know that Huawei is getting ready to announce a new flagship smartphone, namely the P8. The company confirmed the handset's name, while also launching a teaser video to remind us that the P8 will be officially unveiled on April 15 in London. Although this is a 1:40 video, it doesn't really tell us much about the P8, other than the fact that the handset will apparently let us see and capture "the wonder of light."
The P8 is expected to have a 13 MP rear camera and an 8 MP front-facing camera, and it's possible that Huawei enhanced both of them to capture more light in the dark. ...
LG formally announces its new UX 4.0, will officially debut on LG G4

Just hours after we got an early peek at LG's new user experience for upcoming smartphones, LG officially announced UX 4.0. The company also confirmed that the new user experience will make its debut on the LG G4, to be unveiled at the end of April.
LG proclaims this latest update to be a more "personalized user experience" which will go beyond the normal conveniences we normally see with other UI enhancements. LG notes that UX 4.0 is a simpler interface with fewer configuration steps, yet still highly customizable.

First Sony Xperia Z4 camera sample photo allegedly leaks out

Sony may not yet be ready to officially announce the Xperia Z4, but the handset already appeared in quite a few leaked photos. Now, it seems that we can even take a look at a full-resolution camera sample from the Z4's rear shooter, thanks to a photo that was snapped with a "Sony E6553" (which, as already reported, is the Xperia Z4).
The photo has a 5,248 x 3,936 pixel resolution, so the rear camera of the Z4 should be a 20.7 MP one, just like the cameras of the Z3, Z2, and Z1. Of course, the new camera will likely bring improvements in other areas. For now, though, seeing just one photo, ...
Samsung says it will have a higher first quarter operating profit than earlier expected

On Tuesday (because of the time difference, those in Korea are a day ahead of us), Samsung announced that it expects to report an operating profit of $5.43 billion USD for the first quarter. That is above the $4.88 billion USD in operating profits that analysts had earlier predicted Samsung would report for the first three months of the year. However, it is a 38% decline from the $7.82 billion USD in operating profits that Samsung reported for last year's first quarter.
For the first quarter of this year, Samsung expects to have $43.25 billion USD in revenue. That is lower than the $45.83 ...
HTC One (M8) on AT&T to begin receiving Android Lollipop update tomorrow

HTC received technical approval for the Android Lollipop update as scheduled, and now AT&T customers packing the venerable HTC One (M8) will begin receiving the update on Tuesday.
Often, AT&T only allows update queries to be made once every 24 hours so instead of hammering your "system update" button, wait until tomorrow. According to HTC's Mo Versi, specifically after 10:00am Pacific on Tuesday, as that is when M8 users can expect to start seeing update notifications.

Stanford develops a safer, cheaper aluminum-ion battery that recharges in one minute

Imagine being able to fully recharge your phone's battery in just one minute. Stanford University researchers have been working on such a invention. Not only does this "high-performance" aluminum battery recharge faster, it also lasts longer and is less expensive. Sounds like a perfect battery for all smartphone users. And unlike lithium-ion batteries, which have been known to explode under certain circumstances, Stanford's battery will not start a fire even if you drill a hole through the center of it.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7 officially launches next month

Last month, Samsung showcased two brand new tablets in Russia: the Galaxy Tab A and Galaxy Tab A Plus. Now, the company is officially confirming that the latter will be available in Europe starting May. More specifically, the slate will be launched in Germany, where it's going to be called just Galaxy Tab A.
The new tablet sports a 9.7 inch display with an unimpressive 768 x 1024 pixel resolution and a 4:3 aspect ratio, and fortunately runs Android 5.0 Lollipop. According to Samsung, the Galaxy Tab A is made for people who want to read ebooks, browse the web, and use email on their slate. ...

A new update to messaging app Snapchat brings with it a new feature called Friend Emoji. Only you will be able to see the emoji as they appear on your contacts list. You will see a special gold heart emoji for a person who is your #1 BF if you're this person's #1 BF. A fire emoji is used for a person you've snapped back and forth for consecutive days, and a smirk emoji is used for a contact who considers you their BF but they are not yours.
