LG will select 4,000 customers to test drive the G4 flagship smartphone before its launch

LG just announced that, "as part of its most ambitious smartphone introduction yet", it's going to allow 4,000 customers to test drive the upcoming G4 flagship smartphone weeks before it becomes available to buy. The program debuts today in South Korea (it's already April 8 there), and will also be available to consumers in other 14 markets: Canada, China, Brazil, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, Turkey, United Kingdom, and United States.

Intel develops a new, smaller RealSense smartphone camera

Intel CEO Brian Krzanich displayed a new RealSense camera at IDF in Shenzhen today that is smaller and thinner than the previous version. It also runs cooler than the previous model as well. The executive showed how the camera fits into a 6-inch prototype, although it should be noted that Krzanich didn't power up the device while he was on stage.

Huawei recently introduced a brand new smartphone that should be of interest to customers looking for an affordable LTE handset. Called Huawei SnapTo (or Huawei Expo), the new device can be pre-ordered from Amazon in the US, and should start shipping on April 9.
The SnapTo / Expo is compatible with the 3G and LTE networks of AT&T and T-Mobile, and is offered for $179.99, unlocked, in two color versions: black and white. The smartphone is 7.6 mm thin, and has a "leather-texture finish" on the back.

Instagram users on Android and iOS have a couple of new options at their fingertips in an effort to customize the images taken with the app. Fade allows you to soften the colors of an image. Color allows you to change the tint of the highlights and shadows of your picture. The colors that you can choose from include yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue, cyan or green.

AT&T updates Samsung Galaxy S4 to Android 5.0.1

AT&T started sending out Android 5.0.1 to the Samsung Galaxy S4 on Tuesday. This means that if you are an AT&T customer with the device, keep your eyes peeled for the update. This is quite a hefty file, weighing in at 947MB in size. The Code Scanner, Browser Bar and Softcard apps from the Galaxy S4 are removed from the phone with this update, which has a build number of LRX22C.1337UCUGOC3.

Microsoft this week launched its latest mid-range smartphones, the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL. The first market to get both of them is India, where the 640 costs $192 (11,999 INR in local currency), while the 640 XL can be purchased for $254 (15,799 INR). While getting ready to announce the P8, Huawei is also preparing Android 5.0 Lollipop updates for some of the devices that it released in 2014, including the Ascend Mate7, Ascend P7, Ascend Mate 2, and Ascend G7.
The first to get the update (starting May) will be the Ascend Mate7, which was released in September 2014 with Android 4.4 KitKat on board. The other day, ZTE was supposed to unveil the new flagship ZTE Nubia Z9. Instead, only the ZTE Nubia Z9 Max and ZTE Nubia Z9 mini saw the light of day. The ZTE Nubia Z9 was delayed, but is expected to soon be introduced. According to someone who is allegedly a ZTE insider, the Nubia Z9 will be bezel-less.
Other specs for the Nubia Z9 include a 1440 x 2560 resolution on a display that is around 5.5-inches in size. Under the hood you will find a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 CPU or a 64-bit hexa-core Snapdragon 808 CPU. The device will feature either 3GB or 4GB of RAM.
