LeTV COO holds bezel-less X900 in photo posted on Chinese social media site
4/9/2015 12:55:00 AM

Recently, we've been talking about the LeTV X900. This is the manufacturer's so-called "Super Phone" that features a bezel-less 5.5-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560. Posted on a Weibo page in China is a picture showing LeTV's COO Liang Jun holding the X900 in his hand. At the same time, he is talking to the company's partners about speeding up production of the phone. The executive also posted on the Weibo page his comments on the difficulties of producing a bezel-less handset.

The LeTV X900 is supposed to be unveiled on April 14 along with the more down to earth LeTV X600. The ...

Poll results: Do you think the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge is worth $100 more than the regular S6?
4/9/2015 12:18:00 AM

Available to pre-order since March, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge are Samsung's most advanced smartphones to date. They're also the company's first handsets to offer up to 128 GB of internal memory, which means that the most expensive models cost almost $1,000.

Obviously, the Galaxy S6 edge is more expensive than the regular S6. To be exact, it's about $100 more expensive (it doesn't matter if you buy it on contract, off contract, or unlocked).

As you may know, the difference between the regular S6 and the S6 edge is mainly a design-related one: the latter has a curved display ...

Cricket now offering three payment plans for new phone buyers
4/9/2015 12:11:00 AM

Usually when you buy your handset from a pre-paid carrier, you pay full price for it. Why? Well, without a contract binding you to the pre-paid carrier, you won't be offered a subsidized handset. The risk for the pre-paid carrier is too great because you could walk away from them at any time. But Cricket has come up with a trio of payment plans that allow their customers to buy phones like the Samsung Galaxy S6 without having to lay out the whole cost at once. Any phone offered by Cricket for more than $199.99 is eligible to be purchased using one of the following three plans.

Tier one allows ...

LG G4 will feature a "groundbreaking" 16 MP rear camera, plus an 8 MP front-facing camera
4/8/2015 11:40:00 PM

LG today confirmed that its upcoming G4 flagship smartphone will offer a 16 MP rear camera made in-house by LG Innotek. According to LG, this 16 MP camera module is "groundbreaking", thanks to the fact that it comes with a wide aperture of f/1.8.

Reportedly, the new camera module can receive 80% more light than the camera of the LG G3, which means the G4 should be able to take high quality photos in low light scenarios, as well as when capturing moving subjects.

Besides the 16 MP rear camera, "in response to the explosive growth of selfies," LG Innotek also developed an 8 MP front-facing ...

Google says that when it comes to its calendar app for Android, it is listening to you. Back in February, Google started making changes to the app, and will be bringing the Month view back to the calendar based on your feedback. The Month view allows you to see more events with a quick glance at the screen. With the update, when you look at a particular date, you can see the color of events giving you a quick idea of what your day is going to be like. AT&T fined $25 million by FCC over customer data breaches to obtain phone unlock codes
4/8/2015 11:16:00 PM

For nearly six months, between November 2013 and April 2014, off-shore call centers for AT&T accessed customer information, including social security numbers and other account data, and then sold the information to third-parties. The breaches were being made without authorization, and occurred at call centers in Mexico, Colombia, and the Philippines. In all, more than 280,000 US-based customers' records were accessed.

It was not reported if the companies that operate these call centers serve any other US carriers. In this particular case, according to AT&T, three employees in ...

Samsung shows us what happens when the Galaxy S6 edge is dropped on its edge
4/8/2015 11:07:00 PM

We've already seen quite a few Galaxy S6 and S6 edge drop tests (here, here, and here), and now Samsung has revealed its own test, not long after also posting an official bend test. Samsung wants us to see what happens to the Galaxy S6 edge when the handset is dropped exactly on its side - which, because of the curved display, may seem fragile.

As the video embedded below is showing, when dropped from chest-height on its side, the S6 edge doesn't suffer any damage. The video is also showing that the S6 and S6 edge can be dropped on the back (from the same height) without being damaged. ...

Sprint announces free Wi-Fi calling for iPhone customers
4/8/2015 10:29:00 PM

iPhone users on Sprint will be able to make Wi-Fi calls using their phone number. Over the next week, a software update will be rolling out to owners of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, as well as iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c.

Sprint is enabling the feature as a way to augment coverage, particularly in situations where a traditional cellular signal cannot reach, like basements or densely built areas. This affords Sprint customers to maintain connectivity with the carrier's services.

In addition to that feature being free (Wi-Fi usage does not count against minutes or data limits), iPhone customers ...

The email from YouTube also explains how content providers will receive a share of the revenue that YouTube collects from this monthly ...

HTC doesn't plan to release the One M9+ in the US and Europe
4/8/2015 9:21:00 PM

Earlier today, HTC announced two brand new smartphones, both with Quad HD displays, and both ready to be sold in China: the One E9+, and the One M9+ (aka One M9 Plus). The latter is obviously a slightly larger variant of the One M9, having the same unibody metal design.

What's different is that the One M9+ features a 5.2-inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixels (as opposed to the 5-inch 1080p screen of the M9), a physical home button that includes a fingerprint scanner, a Duo rear camera, and an octa-core 2.2 GHz MediaTek MT6795T processor.

But will the M9+ be a China-only device? Well, ...

Professional drop test machine used in new Samsung Galaxy S6 vs. Apple iPhone 6 battle
4/8/2015 8:12:00 PM

Just the other day, we showed you a drop test on video featuring the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Apple iPhone 6. In that battle, the phones were dropped by a person who let them go from various heights. Today, a new video surfaced of another drop test featuring the two flagship models. The big difference is that the test employed a professional drop machine used by manufacturers to test the sturdiness of their devices. Thanks to the use of this machine, the drops would be the same for both models.

Right off the bat, the back glass on the Samsung Galaxy S6 cracked after a back drop test that ...

AT&T's Samsung Galaxy S5 receives Android 5.0.1 update
4/8/2015 5:36:00 PM

Perhaps AT&T just doesn't understand the concept of seniority. Yesterday, the carrier updated the Samsung Galaxy S4 to Android 5.0.1,  leading owners of the newer Samsung Galaxy S5 to wonder where their update was. As it turns out, it was probably in the same spot all along. On Wednesday, the nation's second largest carrier started rolling out Android 5.0.1 to the Galaxy S5.

This information came via tweet from @ATTCares in response to a pointed question from an AT&T subscriber named Dave, who we assume owns the Samsung Galaxy S5. The update includes the Lollipop Material Design, ...
