These fan-made Apple iPhone 7 renders look absolutely stunning
5/7/2015 5:53:00 PM

Lately, there has been a bit of controversy regarding what Apple could have in store for its 2015 iPhone line-up. While many suggest that Apple will follow tradition and release similarly-looking iPhones with updated internals later this year, others suggest that the Cupertino-based manufacturer will break its pattern and jump straight to the iPhone 7 series. Whichever turns out to be the case, the next-generation iPhones are probably still a long way off. However, this hasn't stopped designer Martin Hajek from creating some stunning renders of what Apple's iPhone ...

ZTE budget phone includes fingerprint scanner
5/7/2015 5:51:00 PM

The ZTE Xiao Xian 2 has been unveiled in China, and surprisingly the budget handset includes a fingerprint scanner. Priced at the equivalent of $144 USD, this model has the biometric scanner placed at the back of the device. It also offers 4G LTE connectivity and at 8.9mm thick, this is not a "fatty". It also is fairly light at 126 grams.

The ZTE Xiao Xian 2 (aka the B880 in some regions) comes with a 5-inch screen carrying a 720 x 1280 resolution. It all works out to a 268ppi pixel density. A quad-core 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6735 CPU drives the phone. 1GB of RAM is inside along with 8GB of native ...

Apple's iOS eats into Android's market share in the U.S.
5/7/2015 4:51:00 PM

It's that time of the month again as comScore presents its latest data on the U.S. smartphone market. For the three months ended in March, Android owned 52.4% of the market. That is down .7 percentage points from the 53.1% that Google's open source OS owned for the three months ended in December. Apple's iOS added 1 full percentage point to control 42.6% of the U.S. smartphone pie, cutting Android's lead by 1.7pp. Microsoft's share declined by .1 percentage point to 3.3%. BlackBerry lost twice that amount from December to March which gave the manufacturer a 1.6% share of the U.S. smartphone market.

Google finally updating the Nexus 9 to Android 5.1 Lollipop
5/7/2015 4:49:00 PM

Google recently announced on Twitter that the Android 5.1 Lollipop update is now being rolled out to the Nexus 9. The tweet doesn't mention which version of the Nexus 9 will get the 5.1 update, but we remain optimistic that both the Wi-Fi only and the LTE versions will be updated at the same time.

Although Google has already updated most of its Nexus tablet line-up to Android 5.1 Lollipop, the Nexus 9 was still running Android 5.0.1 a couple of days ago, which was terribly surprising given that the Nexus 9 is the latest Nexus tablet. Yesterday ...

Will Android M contain these new features?
5/7/2015 11:24:00 AM

Although Google hasn't officially uttered one word about Android M, the name leaked out yesterday when Google released parts of the Google I/O schedule. From a look at what the topics will be for various I/O sessions, we can draw some conclusions about what new features might be included on Android M. One such feature is called "Voice Access" and developers at Google I/O will get to hear from Google how to add hands-free capabilities to their app.

"Nearby" is another feature that was hinted at in the Google I/O schedule with a session called "Proximity-based communication" listed. It seems ...

More Galaxy Note 5 details appear, dual-edged version codenamed Project Zen
5/7/2015 9:59:00 AM

If you have been drooling over that rumored 4K display in the Note 5, you should hold your horses, as the latest insider info claim from Samsung's labs pegs the version with a 4K panel as just an engineering prototype, being tested alongside a 2K option. Which one will Samsung ultimately choose, remains to be seen, though our money is on the "lesser" resolution, as Samsung has to first ensure enough yield for a Super AMOLED 4K panel, and, second - 4K would be pretty overkill on a phone display, though that's never stopped Samsung before.

What is intriguing in this newest string ...

Remember that good old Snake game that used to be on your Nokia? It's finally getting an official reboot
5/7/2015 9:38:00 AM

Back in the day of "dumb" phones, gaming on your handset wasn't a very common activity. Obviously, there wasn't really a way to put any software into the gizmo, so owners were stuck with games that were factory pre-baked into the "software". These were usually small, boring, way too simple, or way too repetitive games, with a few exceptions here and there, but no one cared much about them, as game playing was far from a selling point back in the day.

Well, that status quo almost changed when Nokia launched the 6110 with a Snake game installed among its entertainment options – in fact, we ...
