Twitter today released Periscope, a new app that lets users broadcast live video. For now, the app is available only on iOS, while an Android version is "in the works" (with no word on when it's going to be available).
The new app is free, allowing broadcasters to stream live video not just to other Periscope users, but also to Twitter - with just the press of a button. If you don't want your broadcasts to be public, you can choose to only share them with specific people. As viewers, Periscope users can browse live or recent broadcasts, send messages to broadcasters, and "tap the screen ...

3/26/2015 1:50:00 PM
Apple plans on teaming up with Foxconn to offer consumers in China a way to trade-in their old iPhone model for credit toward the purchase price of a shiny new one. The program will start inside Chinese Apple Stores on March 31st. Foxconn's role in the program will be to buy the used iPhones and resell them. Under the rules of the program, reps inside the Apple Store will take a look at the condition of the iPhone before determining how much credit will be offered to the consumer in a trade. If a price is agreed to, Foxconn will purchase the used handset directly from the consumer selling it. Apple ...

Motorola found guilty of infringing on MMS patent owned by "patent troll"
3/26/2015 11:09:00 AM
On Wednesday, a jury in Delaware found Motorola guilty of infringing on a patent related to the MMS technology used for multimedia texting on mobile devices. The patent is owned by Intellectual Ventures, a company known for its holdings of intellectual property. This was the second time that the two companies squared off in court. The first time, a mistrial was declared when a jury could not reach a verdict on a case heard back in February 2014.
In addition to finding Motorola guilty of infringing on the MMS patent, the jury cleared the company of illegally using a patent related to wireless ...

Nexus 6, Nexus 5 both receive latest version of the Android 5.1 Factory Image
3/26/2015 9:29:00 AM
The Nexus 6 has received its third Android 5.1 Factory Image. Version number LMY47I replaces version LMY47E, which in turn was a replacement for version LMY47D. The Factory Image is used by those owning a Nexus device to restore the stock Android OS to it. This might be necessary if someone has customized their handset and will miss an important update being sent OTA.
Another reason to turn to the Factory Image would be a situation where an attempt to customize a Nexus device has gone horribly wrong. Flashing the latest Factory Image would return your device to stock Android. You can also ...

10 smartphones with little or no screen bezels that seem to be from the future
3/26/2015 9:13:00 AM
It's 2015 and the way things are looking, smartphone manufacturers - especially ones hailing from China - are rampaging against the screen bezel. What used to be a niche is now a small crusade that's invading markets left and right, laughing at you for buying an expensive smartphone whose screen bezels are wider than a hair's width. From Oppo and Sharp all the way to LG & Samsung, slim screen bezels are slowly but surely becoming a characteristic of high-end smartphones. It will only be a matter of time before bezels go the way of the dinosaur and all Android flagships start looking like Sharp's ...
Distributors demand more Galaxy S6 edge units, Samsung runs out of touchscreen panels
3/26/2015 8:16:00 AM
A couple of weeks ago, we heard a report that Samsung is working hard to boost production of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, looking to ship 13 million units by the end of April, based on huge demand. Our of this number, just 4 million were planned to be the uniquely curvy Galaxy S6 edge. Of course, this is understandable, as the handset is both much harder to build, and could end up not appealing to many due to the unorthodox form factor.
Well, it seems the latter concern is out the window, as Samsung is now on the hunt for more suppliers for its arched-glass hero, as it intends to triple ...
Samsung Galaxy S6 edge Review
3/26/2015 8:13:00 AM
What entails a flagship smartphone? The question posed here might be a simple one, as most companies put their best showing into one, singular product. To the Korean giant in Samsung, however, the idea of a flagship phone is now spread not to only one device, but surprisingly two instead. This notion of two variants of a flagship phone was first introduced last fall during IFA 2014, where alongside the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Samsung decided to out the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge.
Following forth with a similar move, the company ...
Samsung Galaxy S6 Review
3/26/2015 8:00:00 AM
Almost hard to imagine it, the first-generation Samsung Galaxy S came into light back in the summer of 2010. Back then, the competition in the smartphone market was largely dominated by the iPhone. Over in the Android space, there were a few notable Android devices making some noise as well, such as the HTC EVO 4G, Sony Xperia X10, and Motorola DROID to name a few, but for Sammy, the launch of the original Galaxy S ushered in a new era for the Korean company – one that eventually spurred on iterative devices that proved to be more and more impressive.
Subsequently, ...
