New iOS 8.3 beta builds go out to testers and developers
3/24/2015 2:17:32 PM

Almost two weeks ago, Apple officially unveiled its consumer-oriented beta program for iOS 8.3. At the same time, it released the first beta build for eager testers, which coincided with the third iOS 8.3 beta release for developers. And today it's time for a new update. A new beta build of iOS 8.3 is now going out to both developers and consumers. For developers, this is the fourth beta of the next iOS release, which might be an indication that we're headed towards the finalization of the build pretty soon. For consumers who are using the Apple Seed program, this is the second beta of iOS 8.3, which will show up for them in Software Update on their devices. The download sizes may be different for each device, but in all cases it looks like we're seeing files above 100MB. iOS 8.3 beta 4 for developers removes the "beta" tag from iCloud Photo Library, but this isn't the first time that this has happened - so it may be back in the future. Additionally, the message filtering feature introduced in an earlier beta has been refined somewhat, with the category for iMessages sent by people who aren't in your contact list having been renamed to "Unknown Senders". Obviously some unnamed bug fixes and performance improvements should be in too, but that's pretty much it for new stuff in this release. Source 1 • Source...

AT&T's Samsung Galaxy Note 4 receives Lollipop update
3/24/2015 1:08:20 PM

Following a few previous rollouts across the world, AT&T's version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is now in the process of receiving its update to Android 5.0 Lollipop. The carrier has posted the relevant documentation on its website, and the official rollout start has happened today. The update comes in at around 1.2GB, so it may take a while to fully download. That's also why you can only grab it via Wi-Fi. Aside from the Android system version bump, and all the features that Lollipop brings with it, the new software features some stability improvements, and two service additions - Find My Mobile and Reactivation lock. Otherwise, we're looking at the same Samsung TouchWiz-infused Lollipop interface that we've seen in the company's other updates recently. After applying the update, you'll be on Android 5.0.1 and build number LRX22C.N910AUCU1COC2. As always, keep in mind that the rollout is probably staggered, so it might take a few days until it reaches your particular device. If you're feeling impatient, you can always manually check for it by going to Settings > About device > Software update. Source |...

3/24/2015 7:00:10 AM

The Asus Zenfone 2 launched in Taiwan earlier this month and it's now launching in China too. The base 5" model is not available, but all three 5.5" variations are. This includes the top of the line model with a 2.3GHz quad-core processor from Intel, 4GB of RAM, 5.5" 1080p screen and 64GB of storage. That's the ZE551ML model and it costs CNY 2,000 (that's equivalent to $322). Asus Zenfone 2 lands in China Below that is a another ZE551ML model, but this one has a slower chipset with a 1.8GHz quad-core processor and only 32GB built-in storage (there's a microSD card slot though). It still has 4GB of RAM and a 5.5" 1080p display. You'll also save some cash, this one is CNY 1,700 ($273). The cheapest Asus Zenfone 2 to be available in China is yet another device labeled ZE551ML. This one cuts the RAM to 2GB and halves the storage again to 16GB, but keeps the 1.8GHz processor and 5.5" 1080p screen. It's CNY 1,300 ($210). The prices are pretty similar to the Taiwanese prices. Just be careful when ordering your device as the model number isn't very helpful - check that you're getting the RAM and storage you...
