Microsoft struck paydirt at last when it released the Surface Pro 3. The tablet that can replace your laptop (according to the manufacturer) was named one of Time magazine's top 25 inventions of 2014. Feeling confident, Microsoft announced today that it is making the popular features found in the Surface Pro 3 available to many more people by introducing the Microsoft Surface 3.

Alcatel made a lot of announcements this past January at CES in Las Vegas. It has significantly increased its marketing to bring more exposure to the brand across the United States.

It has also started selling unlocked devices directly to consumers, capable smartphones like the ONETOUCH Idol X+ and the ONETOUCH Idol 2S, each well under $300 free-and-clear. More than a dozen unlocked and carrier branded devices are available now through Alcatel's direct sales site.

It's now been some 8 years since Apple launched the original iPhone at a memorable event hosted by Steve Jobs. The iPhone is now widely accepted to have given birth to the modern smartphone in a form that will get larger (much larger!), but remain the same at its core until this day.

Nonetheless, one thing that smartphones were not when the iPhone and Android phones started selling is affordable. The $200 on-contract price hiding a full price of the hefty $650 paid in monthly installments hidden in your two-year plan, has remained largely intact for high end devices.
