Which version of Android is your smartphone running on? (poll results)
3/26/2015 5:46:00 AM
Hang around PhoneArena or any other publication focused on the mobile industry long enough, and you're bound to stumble upon the word 'fragmentation'. But what does fragmentation mean in the context of Android? Simply put, it refers to the inability of any one player, including Google, to put the entire market onto the same version of its mobile OS. This is problematic – older versions of Android are no longer officially supported and receive no updates, including security ones, leaving users stuck with devices that are left to die a slow death.

SRI (Stanford Research Institute) International is a nonprofit research institute and one of the largest ones in the world at that. Established in 1946, it is based in the US and is said to have brought regional economic development as well as many innovations to various scientific fields (from medicine to tech) through the years.
Why do we talk about it, you may ask. Well, SRI has developed a range of biometric systems it calls Iris on the Move (IOM) and, as the name suggests, they work as portable iris scanning gizmos. Today, the company has announced it has given Samsung an exclusive ...

Not only that, but they are getting more and more sophisticated, using server-less, peer-to-peer message deliveries, and unbreakable encryption, too.
Samsung's Galaxy S6 Active may come with a microSD card slot, but at a high cost
3/26/2015 3:54:00 AM
When Samsung finally unveiled the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge at the start of this month, everybody gawked at the sleek looks of the new handsets – no denying there. However, many were irked by the omission of two features that have, more or less, become signature for Samsung through the years – a user replaceable battery and a microSD storage expansion slot.
Now, since Sammy has done so well in battery optimization with its previous flagships – the Note 4 and Galaxy S5 – and has added a couple of pretty effective power saving modes, we'd feel safe to assume that less and less users feel ...

Facebook has really big plans for Messenger – track orders, book reservations, more
3/26/2015 1:43:00 AM
The initial explanations for Facebook spinning off its messaging feature into a separate application made sense, despite the vocal disapproval of many. With all the discrete capabilities being added, it would be a daunting task to keep everything working smoothly with one app.
Well Facebook is not done with Messenger, not be a long shot. On Wednesday, Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the social network's plans to expand the functionality of Messenger dramatically.
Many people may not realize it, but there are a few dozen apps that can connect to Messenger, making the service a budding e-commerce ...

3/25/2015 11:25:00 PM
Announced last month by LG as the world's first LTE-connected smartwatch, the Watch Urbane LTE is now ready to try and lure customers in South Korea (LG's home country). The device will be launched there this Friday, March 27, and it's going to be very pricey: 650,000 KRW, meaning about $590. That's higher than the starting price of the Apple Watch ($349).
Thanks to LTE, and the fact that it supports SIM cards, the LG Watch Urbane LTE can make phone calls on its own.
Of course, the smartwatch can also be connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth (as long as the smartphone runs Android ...

Believe it or not, the second-generation Moto X (pictured) is now six months old, and a new model should be released sometime later this year. But when exactly? Well, we don't know exactly when, but it looks like it won't happen in the first half of the year (in case anyone was expecting this).
Rick Osterloh, Motorola's President, today confirmed that the company's trying "to stay on a roughly annual cycle for all of our products, including Moto X." Since the previous Moto X models were introduced in August and September, respectively, that's when we should expect to see the third-gen Moto ...

3/25/2015 10:25:00 PM
A few days ago, ABC News broadcast a number of segments about a top secret Apple fitness lab, where the company tests various heath factors of people as a part of the development of the new Apple Watch.
Not only did Apple employees participate in assisting Cupertino in amassing these heath statistics, nearly all of them did so without actually knowing why they were doing it. This same facility tested the Apple Watch under a variety of environmental conditions as well.
If you saw the ABC New segment, then the most telling item you saw the lab rats wearing was this pronounced blue ...
