Five essential must-have apps for Android Wear
3/24/2015 7:28:00 AM

The whole smartwatch shebang is still a rather confusing mini-mess, where manufacturers are not very certain on how to position their gizmos, while users are not entirely sure that a glorified timepiece with the ability to vibrate when you get an email is worth shelling out $300 for. Well, at least that was the case until the recent few months, when smartdevice makers realised that people wouldn't mind paying a premium price for a watch, as long as it doesn't look like a fitness tracker with a glowing screen, but actually resembles a timepiece you wouldn't mind being seen in public with. Nowadays, ...

Xiaomi "Ferrari" pops up at GFXBench, boasts mid-range specs
3/24/2015 7:18:00 AM

Recently, Xiaomi popped up in our news section with the ultra-affordable device that it is allegedly prepping (a $64 entry-level handset). As such, the device is rumored to be fitted with some pretty low-end hardware specs, which is pretty logical given the rumored price tag.

Today, however, we have information about a new Xiaomi device that just popped up on GFXBench, the graphics benchmark database. Rolling under the "Ferrari" codename, the handset is a mid-range device fitted with an octa-core, 64-bit Snapdragon 615 chipset, a 4.9" 1080p display at ...

HTC One M9 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 4
3/24/2015 6:07:00 AM

Introduction
Samsung capped the end of 2014 on a good note, as the Samsung Galaxy Note 4's incredibly top-notch, all-around performance astounded many. It simply excelled in a lot of areas, giving all sorts of users, not just power ones, something that they can happily call perfect. From the specs, to its battery life, and fantastic camera, very few phones launched last fall could match the Note 4's forward momentum.

Now that we're very well into 2015, the HTC One M9 is one of the first flagship smartphones to arrive on the scene – where it hopes to enthrall ...

Best iPhone camera, photo and video editing apps (2015 edition)
3/24/2015 5:29:00 AM

The iPhone has evolved to be a fantastic camera, but you can get even more out of it and develop your own photographic style with a few apps handy. This list of apps is updated with iOS 8.1, and the current iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in mind.

Camera replacement: ProCamera 8 ($3.99)
ProCamera 8 (a free update from ProCamera 7, the developer is obviously linking up app version numbers with iOS releases) is a surprisingly simple camera app at the surface, that also hides many advanced features in a way that is unobtrusive yet easy to access. Before we jump into them, though, ...

Castro is the first Android system information app that's legitimately pretty
3/24/2015 5:28:00 AM

Hardware info apps for Android devices have two things in common. First, they show you all there is to know about your device's innards. And second, they are as ugly as any app that's about spewing out lines of obscure-sounding text! But for Castro, only the first part applies. The second part is wonderfully dealt with, thanks to a colorful Material Design interface and some pretty illustrations!

Castro app looks so good, it could have been made by Google designers! But it's also really simple, even though it shows data that's as detailed as every other serious system info ...

How to install the Amazon Appstore on any Android device and get free premium apps every day
3/24/2015 4:43:00 AM

Most of you will know that Android, being open source and all, is free for anybody to make use of and build upon. What some don't know, however, is that the defining layer of services and apps, including Google's Play Store, comes at a price and with a long list of requirements that manufacturers need to adhere to. That's why, apart from Amazon, few other makers care to even dream of leaving the Google mother ship and venture out on their own.

Why is Amazon different? Simple – it's perhaps the only third-party, legit app store owner, and developer interest in its platform ...

Samsung Galaxy S6 gets disassembled on video - it's rather hard to get inside
3/24/2015 4:37:00 AM

It's always been quite interesting to take a sneak peek inside the more interesting Android devices and take a gawk at the top-notch hardware inside. Such is the case with the Samsung Galaxy S6, a handset that has some really powerful components inside - an Exynos 7420 chipset, 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM, as well as ultra-fast eMMC 5.1 flash storage.

However, this is not the only intriguing thing about the phone - the Galaxy S6 is the first Samsung flagship to come with a sealed, non user-removable battery, a pretty steep departure from Samsung's roots. We've already treated you ...

No, you won't be able to delete the stock Galaxy S6 apps
3/24/2015 3:38:00 AM

Despite some rumors to the contrary, Samsung's new TouchWiz edition that ships with the Galaxy S6 looks almost as bloated (sorry, feature and freebies-laden) as before. There was speculation that Samsung apps like S Note, S Voice and so on, will be provided as separate downloads, though, in order to avoid gumming up the interface works.

This didn't really happen, as those apps still come preinstalled on the new S6 and S6 edge phones, but they are a bit redesigned now, with a few new features added. Still, yesterday it was reported that, thanks to some obscure ...

Best Android widgets (March 2015) #2
3/24/2015 3:25:00 AM

If you're an Android fan and widgets are your poison, then you probably have a few home screens that house a surplus of neatly organized widgets. Naturally, those who swear by Google and Android have tinkered with these, but those heavily investing into customization are certainly always searching high and low for a new widget that will give a whole new flavor to their Android screens.

Surely, Google Play is the home ground of many a widget, and while we've already separated the wheat from the chaff numerous times, a multitude of new ones hits the app repository on a regular basis. ...

Video of Oppo's futuristic phone with no side bezels shows the device in action
3/24/2015 3:13:00 AM

A duo of curious photos cropped up yesterday, giving us a glimpse of an Oppo-branded phone that featured virtually no side bezels. This would have been doubly surprising, even somewhat suspicious, were it not for the fact that Oppo was found having filed a patent application back in December 2014 that would allow the maker to do exactly that – bezel-less phones.

As if to prove that there's no foul play here and that is indeed an early prototype of Oppo's new phone concept, the source of the images appears to have gone the extra mile, and has also shot a video whilst playing ...

3/23/2015 3:41:00 PM

Meizu has been building some kick-ass Android models with its flagship Meizu MX4 topping the list of high scorers on the AnTuTu Benchmark site for all of last year. The Meizu MX4 Pro takes the MX4 to a slightly higher level, specs wise. Owners of these handsets are curious about when they will receive the Android 5.0 update. We might have the answer.

A chart found on Chinese social media site Weibo reveals a roadmap allegedly showing when Meizu plans on sending a brand new Flyme 4 user interface based on Android 5.0 Lollipop out to various models. The chart isn't the easiest thing in the ...
